Description
Synathedon vespiformis female. I was SO excited to see this in my garden. It is nationally scarce but may be under recorded.
It is quite small, the forewings being 10-12 mm in length.
The male has a much less yellow tail bush.

That is a very unusual looking insect. Great picture- well done.
I do not think I have ever seen one of these. This is a very nice capture.
Superb macro!
Beautiful capture of this rare and beautiful looking insect. Love that little "broom" on her tail ! Thanks for sharing Andrea !
Love the bushy tail, so clear to see especially in zoom!!!
This is really good Andrea and something that I have never heard of. I would think that Steve Ogden on the caterpillar and moth site would love to have this pic.
We have directories for campsites. I suspect insects in the UK have similar directories and your garden is featured! Neat shot.
What an unusual insect, the body reminds me of a brush. Excellent shot, fantastic details!
woww...thats a new one on me
Stunning insect. Bravo.
I agree with Bill's comment. This is a moth? Completely new to me. It looks a bit like a very fancy shaving brush. This is a brilliant image, super sharp.
fab capture Andrea makes me think of a lure used by fishermen.
Fancy butt! That's nice!
Superb capture
Amazing capture Andrea. God bless.
O.M.G !! Here there is a clearwing moth that looks more like a hummingbird moth but it rarely ever seen. I've never seen one. And while this one is far different from that one, it is spectacular! Love that fuzzy bum! Congrats on a great shot!
A neat looking moth that reminds me of a fly fishing lure.
What an interesting critter! Thank you for sharing.
Fantastic creature, but not surprising to find it in your patch, which has to be one of the most desirable spots in England for the insect-folk!
An outstanding find and capture - she certainly got all dressed up for this photo! Very well caught!
fantastic you found one !!!!!!! scarce in holland too
Wow! That is one to get excited about! In your garden too! I bet you ran for the camera. It is a very handsome moth. I have seen a hummingbird hawkmoth (didn't get a decent photo though) but never one of these beauties!
WOW! I have never seen such one before. Excellent capture :-)
Fabulous capture!
