Description
In South Limburg (southern Netherlands) are to visit several marl caves.
Traditionally, there was marl extracted from the ground here, and they made houses and churches of this sandstone.
In the present, this is still done. Also, many artists use this material, which is very soft.
Valkenburg, a little tourist town not far from where we live, has several caves
and cave dwellings (which are still inhabited).
It is interesting to visit this city, and also to make a walk with a guide in these caves.
You here can see a photo of the "Mergelrijk"- cave, with one of the sculpted portraits
which can be admired there, "The Night Watch by Rembrandt van Rijn.
If I've don it well this is a link to Valkenburg.
among other things marl caves in Valkenburg
Thank you very much for your look!
