Description
Despite its name, Bryce is not a canyon, but a collection of giant natural amphitheaters along the eastern side of the Paunsaugunt Plateau. The main attraction are the geological structures known as hoodoos, formed by frost weathering and stream erosion of the river and lake bed sedimentary rocks.
A hoodoo (also called a tent rock, fairy chimney, and earth pyramid) is a tall, thin spire of rock that protrudes from the bottom of an arid drainage basin. The Paiute in the area developed a mythology surrounding the hoodoos in Bryce Canyon. They believed that hoodoos were the Legend People whom the trickster Coyote turned to stone. Paiutes called the hoodoos Anka-ku-was-a-wits, which is Paiute for "red painted faces"
And now…..
Hoodoos.

Beautiful shot of Bryce. Admittedly, it's hard to take a really bad photo of such a spectacular landscape, but still, this one is excellent...
If you think its impossible to take a bad picture at Bryce you should see the ones I am not posting. {:-(
Woohoo! Very nice landscape!
Wonderful and mystical capture Mark
Ah, Bryce Canyon - one of my favorite places i never visited 8=) I'm pretty sure i would fill up a 32MB Memory Card in no time - anf throw 90% of the pics to the bin ... I envy you for visiting this place and hope there are a lot more images to come!
Stay tuned, sir.
Beautiful capture of this place! Yes they seem like people!
What a fantastic rock formation. Hard to believe. In the foreground the spikes look as if they grow out of the rock (like flowers. They now need only just a lot of water * LOL *)
The Earth sure is a wonderful, beautiful place and I love the myths and legends that you tell us about.
This could easily go on a calendar....really a beautiful shot of this gorgeous place. Thanks for sharing.
This is a lovely place to be and photo opportunities everywhere and you have done the place proud with this super shot Mark.
Thankyou for that great explanation! This is such a fascinating photo. I could take a thousand bad landscape photos wherever I am, I think it is the most difficult of genres.
