Description
Oh, the camels are comin', hurrah, hurrah....
Captured back in 8/07, just a small part of a long parade commemorating the 50th birthday anniversary of our semi fair city. These camels are of the dromedary variety. The woman with the wide smile looks like the actress, Helen Hunt. This pic was previously posted some years back.
I felt I had something like this stashed in my files when I saw Mark's double posting of a camel, in the snow in the Chicago zoo.
A camel is an even-toed ungulate within the genus Camelus, bearing distinctive fatty deposits known as "humps" on its back. The two surviving species of camel are the dromedary, or one-humped camel (C. dromedarius), which inhabits the Middle East and the Horn of Africa; and the bactrian, or two-humped camel (C. bactrianus), which inhabits Central Asia. Both species have been domesticated; they provide milk, meat, hair for textiles or goods such as felted pouches, and are working animals with tasks ranging from human transport to bearing loads.

And she gets the lovely job of shoveling the camels' possible excretions, clearly; she looks awfully cheerful despite that! What a great shot, but I have to wonder what significance camels had in this parade? Not that I'm complaining, I love any critter with four legs and fur, even if they do spit when you get too close. Wonderful capture, Harry!
Harry, this is a marvelous dedication for one of the kindest souls in the gallery.
a pretty nice feat Harry that this beautiful photo of dromedaries ...!!!
NiƧce peoples and fantastic capture !!!
oh thank you, Harry, for associating me with this shot. Your shot is a lot more camel-like than mine was. (And there's no snow.) When you used the word "ungulate" in my gallery, I had to look it up: First time I ever heard it. And you recognized the type too: I didn't even know there were 2 main types of camel. It's a bright cheery shot, esp with that woman facing you and smiling: Nice street capture, she pulls the whole shot together, and she has a great smile. I loved Denise's comment---I didn't even think about that contraption she's carrying, ie, that it's for shoveling the camels' excrement. (If you've worked with animals as long as Denise has, you learn a lot of things, I'm sure.) It's such a quirky shot with that smiling woman and two serious men, and two camels walking down an LA urban street (!!!). (S.Cal isn't known for its large camel population.) A really fun shot. And---I didn't know they came in more than one hue: That's a light camel in front! I had no idea. And also, I have a camel hair coat---in fact it's in one of my posted selfies---and it's really luxurious and warm: How camels stay cool in the desert with a coat like that, I don't know. But thank you for the mention, and this delightful shot. Two camels on an LA street---ya don't get to see that every day...
Very Cool!!!
She does! Is she I wonder lol, Great shot and brilliant smile. Rob
