Description
I have never been much of a morning person. I tend to come alive when the sun goes down. Perhaps that is because I was born at night or because my father always said he was a vampire. The joke, of course, is that for much of my life I was forced to be an early riser. School started at 8 a.m. and when I went to work it was even earlier, 7a.m. Since I have become a man of leisure I have abandoned early mornings.
There is one exception to this rule (isn't there always?). Whenever I am about to embark on a journey I find myself waking up early. Perhaps it is the excitement of a new adventure or maybe I just want to make sure everything is ready for the trip.
And so it was that on my last day in Monument Valley I was up before dawn and was richly rewarded for it. Maybe these early risers are on to something.

very good saturation of the morning colors. I do not have to get up at 5 am anymore and find myself sleeping as late as 7:30am
my idea of sleeping in is getting up at 0600 and not 0500! Beautiful sunrise - the promise of a new day to come!

And what a reward this was! An overwhelming view well worth the getting-up-early 8=) As a photographer getting up early can be a good idea, the light before sunrise is often breathtaking - it took me years to learn that 8=)
I can manage it in the summer, and almost nod off again in the garden sunshine, but not in the winter. What a glorious reward!

This sight is intoxicating and sooo awesome. I have every day very, very early start and then when I really so something enchanting see (the nights will, thank God, shorter again) I enjoy the moment ......to then sighing to move on.
