Description
Stratiomis potamida.
It was very exciting to see this insect on an Echium seedling leaf while I was doing my hosepipe rain dance last evening.
(Which, I have to tell you, was extremely successful, resulting in a satisfying downpour!)

Very beautiful macro !!!
Well done for spotting this and capturing it so good as you have.
Great once again !
A first class image Andrea and you even made it rain here about 70 miles away !!
Excellent photos. X
Great capture funny commentary
On patrol I assume. Wonderful macro with some great details. Can we hire you to come to California and dance for us?
WOW! What a beautiful macro, Andrea. Fantastic.
OH! I suddently remember once, when my younger son was 10 and we lived in a row house and the neighbors were having a wild garden party and we couldnt sleep. It had been hot and dry weather for weeks and weeks. I suggested that we should dance a rain dance. And we danced very quiet on the other side of the hedge :) 10 minutes later it began raining and all the People had to go inside. LOL !
Marvelous macro of the unarmed Soldier Fly and mottled leaf, A. You get insects and rain, which is just a myth around here. Incidentally, it reached over 100-degrees Fahrenheit in my patio today.
beautiful find and capture
Such a tidy military bearing! All four are terrific shots.
Amazing capture Andrea. God bless.
Wonder why the name soldier fly? I'm just curious about stuff like that. Great capture here! And I wish we had yesterday's rain, it's stinking hot and way too bright here today!
Very good shot.
Well your rain dance worked Andrea .. it rained here, too!! such a cool shot of this guy who is masquerading as some kind of bee or wasp type thing with those black & yellow stripes!
Fantastic capture and profile details!
