Description
The exposed roots of a strelitzia nicolai, which is also known as the Giant White Bird of Paradise. It's related to the more common Bird of Paradise, but (obviously, from the name) grows much bigger - up to 20 feet tall...

With BIll, you've got the eye for these kinds of shots. Another of your in-the-middle-of-it-all shots, like a closeup of a frenetic dance being staged by tree roots. Powerful light and dark, alternating rhythms, blues against all that brown and beige and bleached yellow, and the lines move like big thick limbs scurrying to get their place in the procession. A fine 'dance' shot; and if we didn't know these were roots---well, we'll we'd probably figure they're 'something' like that, but it could be some extra-terrestrial slugs feeding off their mother...or the tassles of a very heavy scarf worn by trees, to fend off the cold, and found in fairly good shape in a cave somewhere. Powerful capture and articulation. You do this extremely well.
