Description
Coastal artillery emplacement wall, complete with niches. I bet every one of those niches had a specific purpose, but my only concern is how they play with the light. This was at Cape Disappointment on the north side of the mouth of the Columbia River in Washington State.
Today we went to the National Auto Museum in Reno, Nevada. I had a great time taking pictures there and have lots of stuff I like, but can't figure out what sort of titles to use! I don't really care what kind of cars they are, and it's hard to come up with clever titles for what are basically abstracts. *sigh* Oh well. I'm sure something will come to me. In the meantime, I'll keep working up more auto museum pictures in the hopes that I'll have an epiphany! :P

You are brilliant at titles! I almost always resort to an accurate description of the image...sad really. I love this,, but am now imagining each niche as a display area for some ghastly instrument of long distance death, like a gunner's granny's living room wall.

Funny how much time we spend on titles; sometimes I go back and forth, looking at the shot, trying to get it to talk to me!! At any rate, this is another of your wonderful fotos of this old place. I love that old golden tone the wall has.
Well, I can not even come up with a way to describe how much I love the Ärmy Niches"photo...any better than has already been stated by others above. The rich warm tones and the light and shadow play appeal very much to my artistic side. I find your titles and especially your photos exceptionally creative. You inspire me to look for different angles and viewpoints and now titles as well. :) Thank you for sharing your talent.
A great historical picture Tara.
Excellent POV as the eye moves from light to dark. The niches and their connection to the military made me think of the niches in the subterranean catacombs the Romans and later the early Christians used to inter their dead.
Lovely play of light on these old walls and a great collection of ferns on the roof.

Well dear friend, let me tell you that looking at your amazing capture here is an epiphany for me! What a great ensemble of splendid colors together, which make such a lovely and mystic mood. We have a lot of bunkers like that in Paris area. Nice capture and atmopshere.
You warm these cold ex-military places so much with your photography, the way you seek out the interaction between the light and lines and frame it with vegetation. Well done again. I really like that very rusty fume hood structure sticking out on the right, too.

Wow, we see these things very differently. I unfortunately seem to see the actual military function...you see the shapes, forms, colors, textures. I am learning...just very slowly:) Great job helping me see and think more abstractly.

... and here I am - thinking of nothing military at all - go figure ? it appears to me more like a primitive forerunners of the ATM's in our big shopping centres, a bit dilapidated, but pretty close, methinks ;P I realise it's an absurd thought, but still an amazing looking wall - especially with your genius of seeing the difference, of the dappled light, which it brings to this image. BB
Great capture Tara. I like the graffity in the old weathered paint! How about naming it 'Reno # 1', or maybe 'Reno Autoshow # 1' and so on?
