Description
Just imagine to wake up to this 'thing' - first thing in the morning ? aaargh ...
My bed (on the topfloor) faces these sliding doors with flywire/mosquito screen doors - aaargh ...
quick, where is my camera?
there was no need to hurry, he/she hung in there for a few hours and he/she was so placid, he/she let me even slide the doors open
and take a shot from the other side as well ... so, you get two for the price of one !
... and so very photogenic, I thought and a bit scary !
Presumably a stick Insect of the other kind ? (think 'Close Encounters' !)
Cheers Brigitte
PS
I am back - and thanks for all your nice thoughts and good wishes for my 'accident prone mishaps' of the last couple of months ;P

That just cool... great shot
Quite a sticky situation to be confronted with first thing in the morning...me, I would have just hidden further under the sheets ! LOL I wonder if the tree's are impressed with this imposter ? LOL x2 :o) I am, ace captures BB ! ~Cheers~
Well photographed.
Oh my. It looks like something from a Stephn King novel. Great shots :) that top shot makes it look like it could be humongous!
You are absolutely right! - about the length of a ruler (30cm) or (12") LOL
Very cool captures Brigitte. Now, if you dare, imagine them 50 times their original size.....LOL!
What a sweet little thing. I saw his/her little cousins in Indonesia. About 8cm long. Nice pair of images. Very considerate of it to pose for you.
Holy cow - that sucker is HUGE! It's a leaf insect - completely harmless. This is apparently a female as she has tiny, non-functional wings. What an awesome pair of photos of this beauty!! Leaf Insects
How wonderful! I once had four Australian stick insects, and they were called Evo, Joy, Pritt and Joss. They were hatched and raised by a local insect fancier and the big female, Joy, laid eggs which I managed to hatch. It was hard to maintain the correct humidity, and I could never get the youngsters past the second instar ( moult) . It is very exciting to realise that in their home country they get so big! If I had been more successful I should have needed to buy a much larger insect house!
At first I thoought this was a joke made from pieces of vegetation...but no...it is alive! I had no idea they grew so large. Fantastic shots! I would freak out if I opened my eyes and saw this, LOL!
I thought the same as Wayne ... that this was really a piece of a Christmas cactus or something. But no! It's a real insect! That's totally cool. Its left "arm" looks like it ends in a snake's head. What a trippy creature!!
Fab shots Brigitte. I would love to see these in the UK but our climate would not sustain them.
Nice!!!
No doubt, it is a stick insect! Superb capture!
Cool macro!!
Amazing what a nice fellow was saying "good morning" to you, BB-chen! Yikes, what a scary thing to look in the eye, and such strange to see for me. Great news that you are back again, dear Brigitte. Just go on with the good live down under, my friend, plus with your great photographic of course!

excellent work! really scary!
Scary in the top photo and sort of cute in the lower photo. So glad to see you feeling good enough to post this fantastic collage!
My first thought was ... how scary. But then my curiosity came back. Looks like a ginseng root * wink * How big is it?
Great! You meet a beautiful specimen of that leaf insect! They don't live in my country, I saw one held in captivity by a neighbour of mine... He worked in a University laboratory of biology... So glad you can take such good photos of the subject... they are fantastic creatures...
Yikes creepy and a little cute hahah
Great capture of this cute "little" bug! Yes very impressive and shows how fantastic nature can be! :o)
Very good capture!
second scariest thing I ever woke up to was a bat flying around my bedroom (don't worry, I soft captured it and let it go free into the morning air) the first scariest thing was.... oh wait... never mind... you're too young... as to your injuries... be careful, we have a limited warranty on our bods...and replacement parts is sooo hard to come by... and most of all... isn't it spring down there now... time to prep for summer fun, not limping to the oldies.. take care of yeself...
Very unusual looking thing....scary. NIce find. Aloha
What a huge lady! She would give me pause. Oh, my interest would be piqued and I would be in search of my camera too, but my initial reaction would probably be undignified and a little shrill. She's remarkable. She looks like she's made of paper and her tail looks like an open mouth ready to bite. Excellent capture. Wonderful detail.
Oh dear , I hope it not as big as it seems, , they are my pet hate,
Amazing and fantastic capture... Wonderfully done !
La mante religieuse, une créature du... excellente composition
