OK, yes, the title is a little takeoff on a Clint Eastwood film:)
And 750 foot tall sand dunes in the middle of the USA is a tad bit unusual!
We are now visiting Great Sand Dunes National Park near Alamosa, Colorado.
This image was taken this morning about 20 minutes before sunup...first rays sneaking over the mountains to the east...
For those interested, here's a little a link to the wiki on this most unusual place. Click Here.
Note: A definite ZOOM:)

Wonderful Bill. And that is one of my fave Eastwood Malpaso movies:) This ties in with my native paintings, I can see them living on these plains. Great vista.
Superb capture Bill. God bless.
Beautiful! I like the way the dune shapes echo the mountains (or perhaps the other way around.) Seems a likely place for all the dust and sand of the basin to accumulate. What a fabulous place!
oh how i love these huge landscapes you have, wonderful shot
Outstanding....
Marvellous. I love the layers of muted colours.
A beautiful capture Bill of this vast space!!!
I past just to the west of there, but was in a hurry to find something to eat. I could vaguely see it from a distance. superb landscape
I am just a little jealous about this space without houses, cars, people... beautiful landscape and great picture, almost a panorama pic!
Nice view Bill. We are planning to visit this area this summer.
wonderful landscape
Stunning panorama, Bill. Looks a far bit to those beautiful mountains in the distance.
Very beautiful and wondrous capture
Awesome landscape scene Hugs Susan
Ooh, what a wonderfully mysterious place! I love those dunes; you chose the perfect time of day to get this beautifully sweeping view. I love the feel of the high plains, it feels so much closer to the sky...
layers of land here
Absolutely breathtaking, Bill! This definitely needs to be seen full-size! A sweeping scene for sure!
Amazing landscape my friend, very well done!

Wonderful capture Bill.
Zoom really is spectacular Bill, wonderful shot and landscape.
Now, THat is indeed an amazing place tosee just like it grew up from the soil, like HUGE molehills :-) A wonderful shot !!
You beat me to it LOL Yes, a Clint movie.. You've captured another stunning vista here Bill.. Beautiful but stark in its own way.. Well captured. Rob
I expected to see Clint Eastwood walking through the scene, beautiful image
Beautiful depth!
Wonderful lighting! I really like the shaded area in the front. I love the shape it gives to the lit land beyond it and the way it adds to the layered look. I love the light on the dunes too. Beautiful shot!
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing it :)
