...still doing some pre-spring file cleaning. Found this fine figured North American 'Common Grackle' in a 2009 file.
...he can't sing a note. Grackles are not known for their songs, but for having loud scratchy voices and squawking cries.

I love Grackles, which is not a common view here. They can be very noisy. We have Great-tailed Grackles and they like to congregate in the trees at the grocery stores at the end of the day. You can hear their call here: http://identify.whatbird.com/obj/537/_/Great-tailed_Grackle.aspx and imagine the sound of a hundred of them "singing" together. Once I heard what sounded like someone with a jackhammer tearing up the pavement. I went outside and the sky was black with circling Grackles. Beneath them was one of my cats with a baby Grackle in his mouth. I was able to rescue the baby and put it on a high branch (after taking my disgruntled cat inside). Its parents took care of it once I went inside. What I love about Grackles is they are so gutsy. They stare you right in the eye as if to say, "Yeah, what do YOU want." Beautiful capture! Wonderful colors, dof, and pose!
Beautiful colors !
Grackles! I actually like their sharp, door-hinge voices! Such a handsome bird! They are among my favorite and I think this one is a boat-tail grackle. He's such a show off too! Great shot and perfect colors!
