I just froze my whoopsie-daisy off to get this shot.... :-D
A 30-second exposure @ F-5.6.. The orange glow is from the streetlight across the street from my house. The round 'object' is actually a lens flare caused by internal lens reflections of the streelight. I'd love it if it was the moon, but it isn't! LOL!
The streak of light in the sky is the International Space Station orbiting approximately 240 miles above the Earth, and traveling at around 17,000 mph. It appeared in the WNW, and disappeared ESE. Total viewing time was about 4 minutes.
You can go to NASA's website, and click on the Space Station link, where you can track the station, or sign up to get e-mails when it will pass over your area.
Thanks so much for all the great comments on my T.N.A. Spa Day episode! That was a riot to create - I'll have to do more little side-stories like that! :-D

I would love to catch the space station. the day Space Shuttle Columbia blew up over Texas I missed just because of cold weather and I delayed going out to my dogs. chances are I would have not brought my camera out excellent timing on this

Thanks Rod. Will have to check out when the Space Station will be in the vicinity of Washington State...only problem is we see the sky above the clouds only about one night a week during the winter months.

at 17,000 MPH I'm afraid if I blinked I wouldn't see it - lol... even a thousand miles an hour above the earth is hard to believe - you sure you got that right? I mean, it's just orbiting it's not like it's trying to get back home so it can use the toilet - lol cool picture... Frost bite on the ass? - sounds like your but would crack if you farted - hey, maybe that's why butts have cracks - lol

Yes, to Mikeerson, that speed is quite correct and of course it seems like it is travelling much slower in the time exposure but it is traversing a very large distance. If it were passing 5,000 feet over your head you would never see it because you would be too close. If you check you will find that they are actually travelling much faster than a bullet and that surprises many people. Great shot!

COOL shot Rod! Freezing your keester off for a picture of a white streak across the sky, just for us???????!!!! ... Now THERE'S a pal! LOL!!! But, seriously, when you zoom in on this, I notice that at the right end of the streak you can actually see the station - I THINK. Looks like an object there. Interesting.

Dauymm and I was hoping the round "object" would be Nibiru, instead, lol. This is such a great shot Rod. You know they have real time tracking and software where you can install on your lap top connected to your telescope and it will do away with the "visual" tracking. This is great Rod. Awesome Capture Rod and thanks for the heads up but currently at only 6 degrees outside and a low of minus 11 tonight I don't think I'll be venturing outside for anything other than some firewood...(smiles)...
