Description
This Convair F-106 Delta Dart is departing Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport after a visit for the 161st Air Refueling Wing Family Day.
The Convair F-106 Delta Dart was the primary all-weather interceptor aircraft for the United States Air Force from the 1960s through the 1980s.
The F-106 was essentially a F-102B, but it took so long to re-design that it was designated F-106. At first glance the F-102 and the F-106 look almost identical, but the F-106 is two feet longer, has a somewhat truncated vertical stabilizer rather than peaked, twin nose gear, engine intakes set further back, a different rear end, and above all a more powerful Pratt & Whitney J75-P-17 after burning turbojet engine.
The F-106 served in the continental United States, Alaska, and Iceland as well as brief periods in Germany and South Korea.
The F-106 never saw combat nor was it exported to foreign users.

Was always fascinated by the really high, angular canopy on these....great action snap, bet it made a great sound too...
Excellent work.
Did you ever feel something that you could not explain – I love the silhouette of the F-106!
It did make a fantastic sound. It was cleared to climb to 15,000-ft. it looks fantastic in a near vertical climb with the delta wings.
