Description
Captured 3/14/12, mid afternoon, within the usually congenial confines of my condominium complex.
ZOOM worthy.
Blimey, can someone out in the audience identify this bloomin' bloom?
They blossom from a bush, are very few and far between, along with clumps of little red berries.
Arrivederci, thankx for coming aboard, and for any and all favs and noncritical comments.
PS: morningglory has correctly identified it as a Red Powderpuff, as indicated below. Thanks a ton, Terry.

Can't say as I can Harry, but no matter this is a stunning capture
We have a plant out here called a bottle brush plant I think the real name is Callistemon, I think this may be one or a variety of one. Very pretty!! They grow wild all over Tennessee in the fall.
looks very beautiful and funny too , don't know this blossoms !
I don't know Harry; if the leaves around it belong to the flower then they aren't right for bottlebrush or mimosa, so I'm baffled (easily done!) Whatever it is, it's a beautifully strange blossom. I love the little balls on the end of each hair, it looks like it would feel cool to rub your hand over gently. Wonderful capture!
Such a lovely photograph! Never seen one of those before! Like it a lot!
And it remains a mystery for me Harry:) But you took a smashing photo of it. I'll come back tomorrow to see if this got identified by any of our botanical experts.
The leaves look wrong for bottlebrush as Denise says, but a super shot. Can we see a sideview?
Harry, check Calliandra haematocephala (Mimosaceae). One of the common names is Red Powderpuff.
Got no idea Harry, but its really a beautiful bloom! lol Lovely, clear shot, well done.. Rob
I'm with Terry - I have posted a Mimosa before - very delicate flower and capture.
beautiful flower shot
It looks to be well named as it is a wonderful powderpuff. A super capture.
Wow this is very cool love the color also.
lol, I forgot about the comments on this one, that people actually offered suggestions about what this was (and one knew). You and the others on RR who know so many flower names & species...you leave me in the dust. I've drawn a million flowers, and I still don't know more than a handful of species. So for me, I sound like Andrea does about planes: "The shiny bits..." "The dark bits..." That's about my speed...BUT! The photo's the thing. One of your straight forward flower captures, which works yet again. (Which I say because straight forward plant captures---as with drawings---can be a great challenge, to keep them interesting, etc.) A burst of a capture, and I can't figure out how flowers can have nothing but those spindly petals. But I guess dandelions turn into that after they've bloomed, I don't know. But it's a wonderful looking creature, and your head-on capture brings it to us in our face, so to speak. Also, I like that you got some branches in the left-top, and berries in the right-bottom: Fine balance. While morningglory provided the title, the word "mystery" applies on several levels, for its mysterious beauty and deep-pink flare...
