Description
Railroad tracks at the Golden Spike National Historic Site.
May 10, 1869, Promontory, Utah. The final rail tie was laid and the final spike was driven, and the United States had its first transcontinental railroad.

I love the "book cover" look of this shot; as if this is the image to accompany a bleak and beautiful tale. I love the haunting quality this image possesses, especially in terms of your use of space. So much in this photo just goes on and on (as driven by the vanishing perspective) and it has an interesting effect as it makes the viewer feel small and possibly even insignificant. I love that feeling as it shows just how big and open things really are; the more wiggle room one has, after all, the more wiggling one can do and this photo has gobs and gobs of wiggle room, and that is just one reason to love it. This is fantastic and it's so compelling, especially for its lack of distracting color. This rocks!

Ah ha,...a beautiful monochrome treatment for the tracks heading west off Promontory Summit. Since you are from the west and I am from the east...maybe I'll get around to posting these tracks going east:-) We had a great time here...a most unforgettable hour or two...well worth the 47 mile round trip off our main route.
