Description
The Bell UH-1 Iroquois is a military helicopter powered by a single, turboshaft engine, with a two-bladed main rotor and tail rotor. The helicopter was developed by Bell Helicopter to meet the United States Army's requirement for a medical evacuation and utility helicopter in 1952, and first flew on 20 October 1956. Ordered into production in March 1960, the UH-1 was the first turbine-powered helicopter to enter production for the United States military, and more than 16,000 have been produced worldwide.
The first combat operation of the UH-1 was in the service of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. The original designation of HU-1 led to the helicopter's nickname of Huey.
In September 1962, the designation was changed to UH-1, but Huey remained in common use. Approximately 7,000 UH-1 aircraft saw service in Vietnam.

Great capture Cool looking chopper
I flew in many of those 7000 during two years (65-66 and 70-71) in Vietnam:) Excellent written background for your photo.
very cool, the huey, aka huey hog. great shot. "bmac62" thank you for your service and my freedom
What an iconic air machine! I love the sound these babies make, but unfortunately the only time I ever heard that sound was either in movies, or in documentaries in which actual people were at war and getting killed, so that sort of puts a damper on the sound-enjoyment thing. But all of that aside, this is a real marvel of a shot. Funny how this kinda also looks like a Russian mosquito; no I mean a literal mosquito, from Siberia...yeah, those suckers are big! Not as cool as this baby though. I like it. I like it a lot.
Superb capture my friend. I wonder what stories could be told by this Huey.
Very interesting!
"This is the end" from the Doors runs through my head when I see one of these.

This is a stunning shot mate... So cool.. I have one two shots of Huey's BUT nothing this good! So, I won't post! You win....hands down! Awesome! A Fave! Rob
The helicopter as a whole found it's role in the war theater at that time, to today and a long tome to come. Great POV to show all!
This is a great shot and and a good history refresher. I had several uncles who served in Viet Nam and they used to tell me stories, frequently involving Hueys. Nice work here.
Wonderful POV and capture. Nicely armed. Dana

As you know, in service today in Cape Town fighting fires! Well done, Clive
This was horse I rode when I wore a uniform. Thanks!
