Description
How caterpillar shadows actually look, not to be confused with bat shadows.
Captured 12/2/10, very early in the morning, at various locations within walking distance of my laissez faire lair.
Check it out full size if you're so inclined.
The one in pic #3 has the tail of a scorpion, so it's not to be messed with.
Sayonara, thankx for tuning in, and for any and all complimentary comments and faves.

Fantastic idea and collage. Excellent and very creative photographs.
Clever Harry! I would actually have believed it! If the stick hadn't of appeared as I scrolled downwards.. lol But, great idea, cleverly caught! Rob
Wow! This is so well done, great work!!
They really do look like caterpillar, number 4 looks like hes had a long day out fighting the Christmas mall crowd though.. Nice work.
Wow that top one looks so real. Excellent captures to get these great shadows.
More of your fine explorations of the objects of our everyday. Your shadow series is fine for more than just the caterpillar shadows: It's also for the 4 different concrete textures beneath them, the different light in each one, some tiny 'stuff' on the sidewalk in the last one, and of course the shadows themselves. I appreciate you working hard to find these likenesses so you can show us the like-patterns in nature. (I assume you have many patterned shadows in your collection, and that it must take real time & effort to find the likenesses & differences among them so you can make montages for us.) Amazing how these even 4 cast those angled forms we associate with caterpillars. (Did you know that "caterpillar" comes from a root meaning "hairy cat"? Can't beat that etymology!) More of your tireless explorations of the forms around us...your shadow series are another example of what photography is about. Fine work Harry, and devoted.
Wow...too cool. I am betting it didn't take you but seconds to look down and see the "caterpillar" instantly. Your excellent at finding the hidden in shadows! I love it. Awesome captures Harry!
These are wonderful! Number one looks like the very hungry caterpillar (a children's book by Eric Carle) at almost the end of the book when he has eaten through an apple, two pears, three plums, four strawberries, five oranges, one piece of chocolate cake, one ice cream cone, one pickle, one slice of Swiss cheese, one slice of salami, one lollipop, one piece of cherry pie, one sausage, one cupcake, one slice of watermelon, and one nice green leaf. He's kind of fat at this stage. I love all the different kinds and positions of the caterpillars. The second one looks like he is reaching up and is one of those that has a pretty hard outer skin. The third one does look like it is carrying a lethal weapon. It also reminds me of the hairy ones my sister would step on just as I came up because they made a really horrible sound which freaked me out a bit. It didn't do the caterpillar much good either. The last one looks like it is getting ready to rear up and test the air, probably to make sure there aren't any mean little girls about. Excellent captures! I love your shadow shots!
