This old log made me smile and think of what my father used to get for an answer every time he went to the doctor during his last ten years (he lived to age 99 1/2)..., "Oh, it is just part of the aging process Mr. Mc..."

OH Dear... and it is the beautiful part, I see. I am glad we dont have such things on our beaches......I wouldnt be able to resist on trying to pull them all the way home :-D They look fantastic :-)

My first instinct whenever I see a log like this is "take it home". Doesn't matter that there are millions of them, or that I rent my home, or even that my back yard couldn't possibly hold them all. There's just something so beautiful about the lines and textures of old wood!

Now here's a great example of seeing different things. I mean ... I saw this, but I didn't SEE it! Excellent capture of this VERY old driftwood log. Makes me wonder how long it's been around. Fascinating!

Looks like one of my ancient dinosaurian relatives, or what's left of it. :) Beautiful photo, leaves a lot to the imagination. And to deeper reflections. Where did it stand? Why did it fall? What has this former tree been through. Ah, if it could tell us of what it's "seen" during its long life span. And yet, after all those years, it, too, fianlly comes to an end.

Yep too true! I reckon that by factoring in The Millennium Bug, faulty clocks, daylight saving, and the fact that time was a little different 'back then' as people on average were shorter than they are today.......your dad earned his 100 year title! Close enough in my book!

I'm another member of the driftwood fan club.Love the colour and texture of old 'rough' wood.As mentioned by T.Rex, what stories could it tell? This certainly appears to have been a substantial tree in it's time. (On the point of collecting these, I used to...on a far smaller scale, I found a use for small'ish pieces of old wood. One piece is sat in front of me right now.Will take a pic and post it. )

beautiful capture of a big undulating turbulent chunk of sea-aged wood, with all kinds of motion & nooks & crannies, and the backward sections almost in a rust tone as if they'd actually rusted from the moisture. You got a great angle on this, encompassing a big mass and showing it reach back into the scene. And you gave us enough of the ocean, atop, to root us in its source. (I like the sliver of water & horizon---it's a nice balance to the sprawl of the wood. And it's a beautiful sky, btw.) There's even a little burst of red on the right, bottom---a flower, maybe? I don't know. But the motion, as this glorious wood goes back into the shot, is just wonderful; aging & beautiful at once. (If I stop here it's only so I can get to everyone else before the weekend is up, but you know how much I appreciate your work. This is a marvelous image!)

Great character in this driftwood and who knows how far it traveled, to end up on this beach? Dana
