Description
Captured 7/31/10, at the American Civil War Reenactment, held at the vast and beautiful El Dorado Park in beautiful Long Beach, California.
Better viewed full size.
I'm back, despite being in the throes of lower back trouble, a chronic ailment I've endured for I forget how long. As a result my time on Renderosity will be restricted until I feel I'm vastly improved. Until then, I'm tempting fate by extended sitting in front of the computer.
Anyway, I'm throwing all caution to the winds just to bring you another facet from the best event I've attended all year.
This trio was playing Civil War era music for a large group of dancers, not shown here, but which I'll be featuring later. I must have taken a ton/tonne of pics of those terpsichoreans, enjoying their 19th Century moment. The musicians were playing old goodies such as The Virginia Reel, etc. And there was an instructor present teaching the dancers the various steps and routine.
I like the expression of the violinist in pic #5, reacting in amusement to the novice cotillion efforts of the dancers.
Oh, and the fellow in the background in pics 4 & 5 is my brother, really enjoying the activity despite appearing disinterested.
Toodles, thankx for the peek, and for any and all favorable comments and favs.

Wonderful Capture and clarity. Thanks for sharing this image.
These are excellent shots! Great colour and light, and they clearly convey the sense of festivity that the music must have provided. And I was going to give you one more day before enquiring further if your health was OK, sorry to hear you're having back issues; take it easy for a bit and let it heal before you spend too long in front of your monitor! Or think about a ceiling mounted one that you can use from a reclining position?
Terrific series of shots.....I like the expression of the lovely young lady also. Feel better quick, Harry!
I love looking at other musicians displaying their talent. They probably don't like it when I hang around and sing!! Take it easy and speedy recovery.
Great walk around collage Harry. Like a way the shadow playing on them. About the lower back...I know the nightmare first hand...no good to be restrected because of the constant pain its like your own shadow, always with you.
Glad to see you posting Harry, sorry to hear it is your back. Wonderful collage and I think that I see your brother in #3 also. Cute young lady on the violin. Go easy my friend! Dana
you did a good job as you can walk around them to take photos of they players
Stunning images, Harry! They are exactly like paintings in theeir 'feel'. Do get well soon.
WOnderful series of images Harry! I really like the POV in the last three images where one "look over the shoulder" of the violinist and read the music with her! It really looks like great fun! As I said in the sitemail - take it easy!!
I am so sorry to hear about your back pain, Harry. I hope you are better soon. Beautiful images! Wonderful capture of the festive atmosphere! I like the expressions of the players, the dappled light, and the people seen enjoying themselves in the background. (Including you brother I'm sure, regardless of appearances!) It looks like the violinist was having some trouble with the wind disturbing her music. Number 5 is my favorite. I love her expression, and the light and shadows on her hair and violin.
Oh Harry I sure hope you are up and better soon, I think we all have dealt with some type of back pain from time to time, whatever is the cause stress, over work, or whatever causes or caused it. I had my back go out once it was on my sons 13th birthday I had went all out and at the middle of the day I was just finishing up for party when surprise I was down I couldn't move for three days hardly, they brought his party into my room and we sang happy birthday but I remember well the pain. So I wish you well. And will keep you in my thoughts. hugss.. Great images by the way.
I'm just doing a sampling now, and I'll finish with this because I loved all the joy & immersion you caught in these musicians. The top panel shows 2 musicians concentrating; the second shows joy, with the violinist looking as if she's about to exclaim something---good moment! not easy to capture that with such clarity & ease---the next two give us back shots, with the semi-disarray that music stands bring---ie, paper clips to hold the music, little orange 'markers' so one can quickly get to the next song, a piece of music bent down, etc. (It's probably bent over so the musician can read the page behind it...but sometimes music will blow away while you're playing, or bend over exactly when you need to read it: Esp a problem in outdoor performance which can drive you through the ceiling, believe me.) And the final panel, showing the violinist enjoying herself again (w/ some microphone on her I think). Fine dappled lighting too. A fun & varied collection. More fine montage from you, Harry. (And btw, it's a pleasure to see your brother!)
I do hope your back continues to improve. Those are no fun....take care of you first, Rendo will be here when you can return...awesome captures Harry.
Excellent shots with varying POVs to add to the drama. Hello to your brother...assume you and he must be close...always enjoy the links he sends to you too! Fun to see the expressions and details of the musicians here...and read Mark's comments for even more insight. My parents were both musicians but that talent unfortunately didn't transfer over to me.
