The guys are in for a shock once they get outside. Clint’s Corvette is gone! Good Lord, what could have happened to it. Harold and Greta come running outside too, when they hear the commotion. Harold puts in a quick call to the Sheriff’s office and finds out that a car matching Clint’s decription was pulled over for speeding down in Quapaw, OK. A drifter passing through saw Clint’s Vette sitting between the gas station and house and decided to take it for a little joy ride. He was able to jimmy the door lock and get into the Vette and hot wire it. Soon aftterward he was burning rubber down the old highway. Once he crossed the border into Oklahoma, he failed to see there was a cop sitting by the road. He had the Vette wound up over 100 mph and wasn’t even aware of it, the car was running along so smoothly. The Deputy gave pursuit and was able to get the lunatic to pull off the road in the town of Quapaw. Harold hands the phone to Clint so he can talk to the Sheriff. He tells Clint there doesn’t seem to be much damage to the Vette other than the exposed wires under the dash the guy used to start it. If Clint can get a ride down to Quapaw, the Deputy down there will release his car back to him if he can show proof of ownership. Joey stays at the station with the Slater’s while Clint and Ridge hop onto the cycle and head on down to retrieve the Vette. They arrive just as the Deputy is marching the thief back to is squad car. They pull in behind the squad car at a safe distance and wait for the Deputy to signal them to come over. Once he does that, Clint shows him his driver’s license which matches the registration on the Vette. He has Clint review and sign a statement and gives him the go-ahead to take possession of his Vette. The Deputy tips his hat to the boys and exclaims how lucky they were the bozo in the back seat of his cruiser didn’t decide to try and make a run for it when he saw the Deputy was after him. The Deputies Chrysler 300 Hemi is pretty fast, but he thinks he may not have been able to keep up with the Vette if the thief had decided to skeedaddle. Clint just smiles, thinking inwardly, ‘you know, I really haven’t tried to see how fast this little Vette will go. Maybe some day I will just have to check it out!’ Thank you for taking a peek!
