Home cooking is something these guys find hard to resist. They all head over to Mr. Slater’s house after he closes his gas station for the day. After cleaning up in the mud room, they all gravitate to the dining room where Greta has the supper pretty well set up already. After Harold introduces the guys to Greta, they all sit down to a fabulous meal. Everyone has a great time and the cooking by Greta, is ‘out of this world’ GOOD! Good food and conversation seems to accelerate the clock and before they know it, it’s midnight. Harold and Greta invite the trio to spend the night. They have a spare bedroom in the attic. The guys don’t take much arm twisting and are soon sacked out in the cots Greta has prepared for them. Clint remembers they were planning on getting to Amanda’s son’s place that night, so he calls ahead and lets Simon, the one that answers the phone, know they aren’t going to get there until the next day. Simon says he appreciates the information. He and Sean were starting to get worried about them. The travelers sleep like the dead and wake up early the next morning to the smell of some home cooked bacon, eggs, sausage, maple syrup and hot coffee, the aroma of which practially pulls them out of their bed.Once dressed, they rush downstairs and devour enormous amounts of this marvelous breakfast. Seeing the guys eat really puts a smile on Greta’s face. She loves having her cooking appreciated as much as these guys enjoy eating it. After breakfast, everyone pitches in and helps clean up. Clint tries to get Harold to take some money for his and Greta’s hospitality, but neither Harold nor Greta will hear of it. They are just happy to make some fine new friends. Our travelers all thank Greta and Harold many times over and say their fond farewells and prepare to head back out onto Old Route 66 once again. Thank you for taking a peek!
