Description
...all of my British airplane friends (as well as a lot of other nutters like us) will love this...a WWII British Spitfire Mk.Vc just starting up...with a big plume of white smoke belching forth from the V-12 Rolls Royce Merlin 45 engine.
Photographing the plume is something relatively rare (it is over in about 30 seconds). For you non-aviation folks, have no concern, this is all very normal:)
This was captured yesterday at a "fly-day" at Paul Allen's Flying Heritage Collection, Paine Field, Washington.
For the record: Pilot is Steve Hinton, famous movie pilot and President of Planes of Fame, Chino, California. Wish he'd been wearing a period flight helmet too...
Zoom worthy.
Wish I could add a sound track to this for you all.
Bill:)
P.S. Here's a link in my gallery for this same plane sitting quietly on display in the hanger.

You must have been quite close to capture this pic. I see there was someone even closer:o)
Impressive photos, Bill! That would be something to experience. I can almost hear the thunder of that engine waking up, and almost smell the smoke! Excellent series and collage!
Well captured shots! :) Looks like you have a safer POV the the guy on the other side. ;)
Fantastic capture Bill! I am envious - the lighting under cloudy skies is wonderfully subdued. Very well done, Clive
Nice. Good move standing by the side, as these are called spitfires for a reason :) When one of these fires up they can spit oil, which can add to the summer airshow experience, but not so good for the camera lens!
Excellent series!!! :)
very well done
Thanks for these rare photos. Spit-fire and smoke they do. And you got some nice propeller blur there, too. Keep up the good work! :)
We also have prop blur. A fantastic set of images Bill.
Keep taking the asthma spray. terrific shots!
Awesome collage Hugs Susan~
:-) Good to know this awsome spectacle is available on your side of the pond.Great capture Bill, I'm keen to know / see if thats another Spit along side or a Hurricane ?
Fantastic shots!!
Great job catching the smoke! Now let's see ... does that thing have a pitot tube? :P
Great capture Bill I see you have too props blurred in these.. great to capture that exhaust smoke too!!
Great captures
SO beautiful shots all three. I like them.
TERRIFIC images Bill..
I love it mate. I'm so jealous!
wonderful capture!
superb capture!
Gorgeous
I can feel the ground shaking Bill
and liftoff.... Great POV, clarity and a usually elusive propeller blur in this cool collage, Bill. I suspect you gotta be on the ground to capture both the crisp sharpness of the aircraft and the blur of the props. And I've seen that temporary ejection of smoke in many a war movie.
gorgeous capture!!
Excellent shots of this event! Yep, prop blur!
A stunning sight Bill and this helps me out more than you know with my latest render. Excellent mate.
Excellent collage and timing!
Excellent photos Bill.
New competition Bill... lol Biggest plume of exhaust! This is a big one.. Great series of shots, complete with prop blur! Awesome shots all... Rob
