Description
Had to stop by this unusual work or art on my long drive from Kansas to Washington about 10 days ago.
Mitchell, South Dakota built this "Corn Palace" featuring crop art (corn and other grains) to originally attract settlers/farmers to the area and more recently to attract tourists. It works, 500,000 people a year visit this Corn Palace.
The exterior of the building is decorated with new crop art every year. It is both an arena and an exhibition hall. Architecturally, it is in Moorish Revival style.

That's so cool. Excellent pov.
Wonderful image. In our town we used to have, as the main centre, what was known as the Corn Exchange where the farming community did their wheeling and dealing.
That is a work of art, great one Bill.
OH! I thought of a place where we could get Popcorn LOL! What an amazing building and very well captured too. :-)
Oh my goodness - who has that kind of time?? It must take them ages!!!Wonderful art though Bill and a great crisp image! To me it is so very 'American'... LOL...
Excellent POV and depth: wonderful photograph!
Never heard of this place before. :) Excellent POV and capture!
Isn't it amazing what you see on a long drive through the heartland? I'll never forget the white leather sofa sitting out in the middle of the salt flats in ?Utah? ?Nevada? (someplace where there isn't much of anything else!) Or the "tree" sculpture in the same general vicinity... Great capture of this piece of americana!
Oh gosh, I thought for sure you were going to say this was BUILT of corn and I had this very clever, witty comment all ready. Now I can't think of a thing except, nice shot, Bill!!
You just have to stop when something like this hoves in to view!
I think we saw this on TV a few months ago. It is amazing they would go through all of this to invite folks to come, but you cannot beat success. ;c) Excellent image of it.
drole de chateau!!bonne photo!!
As Meisiekind says, "So American." You betcha!
this is so a'maize'ing that something like this would pop up in the middle of here. Great capture
Wonderful capture and colors.
an interesting building! GREAT shot!!!!
Very cool building. wonderful picture!!
I love this! Good old Americanna at it's best. My family used to take endless car trips all over the place back in the Seventies and we'd see great things like this all this all the time. I thought all this stuff had been plowed under by shopping malls by now and it's wonderful to see that some of it is still alive and well. Have you ever seen the giant Paul Bunyan (sp)statue in Brainerd, Minnesota? The humungous jackrabbit somewhere in Texas. The 100 foot tall Mickey Mouse in Orlando that requires its own substation to be lit up at night. Then there's the big plaster cougar outside Crossroads Lincoln-Mercury in Indianapolis... I'm going to shut up now. Great capture and a lot of fun.
Truly astonishing!
Surely a place to visit my friend. " I like the small Mexicains side. Cheer and mile mercies to divide ((5++)) Surement un endroit à visiter mon ami . " J'aime bien le petit côté Mexicains . Bravo et mile mercis de partager((5++))

Some time ago, I saw a feature on TV about this place - I think it was on the History Channel, but don't hold me to it LOL! Great shot of this amazing place, Bill!
I seen this on television.I would expect in the corn husker state, but S.D.?
Have read about the Corn Palace many times but not seen a photo of it. Super share Bill. Dana
Lovely shot of this unusual building and work of art Bill.. Its kinda corny if you ask me, but whatever brings in the dollars I guess. Here their are a number of places that have corn mazes and one of them have a night session where there are people dressed as ghosts and vamps etc..
A very interesting place, the shot is awesome!
Well, thats just beyond weird! Its like visiting 'The worlds Largest Ball Of String!' lol But BIGGER!!! A great shot of a cool looking building.. Wonderful find.. Glad you stopped by, Bill.. Rob
I somehow missed this back when I visited South Dakota many years ago with my family.... not sure how we missed it though lol.. Thanks for sharing part of your trip through the countryside with us.
