Description
When I was in Chicago, I saw fire escapes everywhere. Hmmmmm ... tried to recall seeing any in Seattle. Mind blank. Looked up "fire escapes" and "Seattle" and checked the images. Nothing. Decided Seattle was bereft of fire escapes.
Then!
One day I was downtown with my camera, doing my best to be tourist instead of tour guide, and I started to see fire escapes! They're not everywhere by any means, but down in the older part of town you can find a few.
This one was reflected in a new high-rise condominium building. "It's exactly what you've been waiting for! Homes priced from $1 million" (Just in case you were wondering if a downtown condo in Seattle was a little on the spendy side. These ran from 1,652 to 2,895 square feet. You just KNOW the big ones are way over a million!)
Anyway ... fire escapes.

Well, if I make it in time I may be the first to comment...yay:). Outstanding shot, love the blurred reflections of the fire escape and the lines of the building reflecting. A very good eye to catch that. Nice job!
Portland has guided walking tours and one is designed for learning about the various types of fire escapes and it was a fascinating tour. Your great picture reminded me of that tour (and the group of 2nd graders I was chaperoning).

Fire escapes are such fun, unless you're in socks, using them as a smoker's lounge, then they just hurt. Anyway...WOW! WOW! You know, when I first looked at this picture (due to my state of mind at the moment) I thought that this would work perfectly as a shot of Caprica City, obviously before the fall! I love the "wonkiness" given to this fire escape by the fact that it's reflected. I love the sense of color and that "Caprica City" glow that this has. Marvelous work!

I knew they were fire escapes as soon as I saw them, but then I thought maybe that margarita was too strong, and THEN I read what you said and it all made sense. As much as anything can after a day spent in airports!!

Fire escapes are so last centuries model! Gotta love 'em. Great reflection shot. The petroleum blue hue is a perfect complement to the hazy shade of grey.

I see fire escapes and I immediately think of Marlon Brando and "A Streetcar Named Desire", wash hanging across airshafts between tenaments, hot summer nights, no air conditioning, pigeons on the roof, men smoking in sleeveless undershirts, women with their hair up in rollers. I am rather sure there must still be some of that in New York's east side today. But it was refreshing to see that fire escapes in Seattle have settled down and are no longer often used in those ways...much more modern, neater, cleaner these days:-))) Anyway, back to your image. I was personally thrilled to see you finding these old-timers to be quite common and finding unique ways to photograph them. This is definitely in your style and well done! Now, you'll probably have us all unconsciously looking for these old life saving devices everywhere we go:)

Interesting geometric effects in this shot. In re your infatuation with Chicago, I heard on the radio this morning that the city is rampant with crime, including murder. Already 113 murders have been committed there since the first of the year, with the Chicago administration requesting the help of the National Guard to patrol the city to prevent further mayhem. Remember to wear body armor during your wished-for trip back there.
