Description
RITE OF PASSAGE
She didn't understand how he could be
So clueless, realizing nothing, blind
He must know, surely, all that he had done
To minimize the love that once was theirs
His actions, after all, were cavalier
And sure to cause a great amount of pain
How could he do this horrid awful thing
And break her heart again and yet again?
I listened to her wail and gnash her teeth
And moan and bitch and cry and stomp her feet
All over this annoying, clueless man
Who had no sense of what he might have done
The focus of his world was him alone
The people in his life just ego's slave
They're cardboard cutouts propped up here and there
As sycophants and kissers of his feet
And then one day while walking in the park
Enjoying sunshine playing in the leaves
She stopped and in moment of pure grace
She realized that he would never change
That man was fine exactly as he was
But how he was just didn't work for her
She packed her shit and left him then and there
And never made that same mistake again

Good for her......
I second Frankie...good for her indeed! Gorgeous bit of writing here, with a sense of elegance and a full emotional journey that never once dips into cliche. I know a few people like the one she decided to finally leave...it's nice to actually be at the point where people are okay as they are and when you yourself realize that simply moving on is the most appropriate thing to do. Brilliant.
Wow, this is powerful. I always enjoy your writings and had been wishing you would post more of your writing again, so you granted my wish. Thank you.
I agree and I wish her luck in the future
so many thoughts in this I like this warm hugs, Linda Kaye
Wam...this hits right between the eyes. I am envious of your ability to write so well in meter. This is something I have yet to try. You tell a story in your verse that I am sure no young woman ever expects to experience. But all too many women eventually find the man of their dreams to be a selfish, insensitive clod. The good news is that there are men that actually do recover:) Great writing...
very nice...
Wow-- that's exactly the way it happens. There comes a clarity, a shift, a change---and the world is suddenly brighter and she is free~~cartwheeling, flying, soaring!! This is beyond beautiful and I love it!!!
love it.........*****
OH YES!
OMG - this is SO familiar Tara... I am covered in goosebumps! Sometimes 'love' can render you blind but once your sight returns, through heartache and many, many tears, that clarity appears like Marilyn said. I think once she has made the decision to pack her shit and leave, real freedom became hers. Freedom to move on and find someone who will appreciate her love. Good for her!!!! Your writing is beyond understanding and so beautiful! WOW... you are multi talented girlfriend! Lief jou Dierbaar! xx
Great words! :)
excellent writing ...and such clarity for many that have been through it ..me for one !
A MOST sad but true tale of real life. WELL written work!
OH Yes. Tried that, been there. OHH YES! But that was long time ago and I havent made that mistake again.
You do have a spectacular way with words my dear. Superb writing. It reminded me of a poem by W.B. Yeats, "Never Give All The Heart." Never give all the heart, for love Will hardly seem worth thinking of To passionate women if it seem Certain, and they never dream That it fades out from kiss to kiss; For everything that's lovely is But a brief, dreamy, kind delight. O never give the heart outright, For they, for all smooth lips can say, Have given their hearts up to the play. And who could play it well enough If deaf and dumb and blind with love? He that made this knows all the cost, For he gave all his heart and lost.
We all need to realize that trying to change someone is a fool's errand. If you give your love, and it is not truly appreciated, it never will be. That said, I did give all my heart and lost; I will never regret it though. Losing is better than reaching the end of your life, and wishing that you had taken that leap of faith, to have given all without counting the cost. What else is life for?
We all change - live in the moment, not the past or the future. Great words and depth, Clive
Excellent write....good for her...I just would of seen it coming for me.
Ah...thank you for this. It gives me hope. My I'm waiting and hoping that my lil one has such a moment of clarity and packs her shit and leave him then and there.
Wonderful story.
The marvelous density of the piece combines a wave of marvelous emotions.
