Description
By the end of 1944, Boeing B-29s were flying 18 hour raids from airbases on Tinian and Saipan to Japan. This is my feeble attempt to portray part of a B-29 crew hurrying to get aboard their aircraft for just such a bombing raid. The early months of the raids from Tinian and Saipan were plagued with high loses of aircraft due to a lot of mechanical problems with the B-29s and, while the Japanese air forces were greatly diminished, there were no long range fighter escorts available to protect the bombers on the Japanese homeland. Things improved greatly after mid-March, 1945, after the capture of Iwo Jima. Once secured, that island was turned into a base for long range fighters such as the P-51 Mustang. It was also used as an emergency airfield for crippled B-29s that couldn't make it back to their home bases.
I'm endebted to adc3d at Renderosity for the uniforms for Apollo Maximus and for the "WWII USA cargo truck." Both are excellent products at very reasonable prices. Parts of his "Airborne" uniform were also used. Trees in the background are by FrenchKiss and can be purchased at Cornucopia3d. B-29 model is a freebie but I no longer have the information on who modeled it.
Thanks for looking,
Jeremy

Very good WWII scene and composition.
Great looking scene, I love the uniforms!
Excellent scene with very nice composition. I also like the depth in this pic. Good work!
This is great!!!
Nice scene and POV!
Lighting, atmospherics, and depth of field are top notch. Glass windshield looks good on the jeep. The air crew look like they're scrambling for their bomber. As always, love the history lesson :)
Nice POV

Excellent work Jeremy!
wow, this is amazing render for this type of scene, so realistic and something different than the same ole landscapes, bravo!
Very nice render Jeremy. Don't often see the B-29 on Rendo. As a long time fan of Adh's models I love this flying gear but have often wondered, where the parachute packs really that square?..does not detract from an excellent product. I've sent you a site mail.
Love history and your art and writeup does my thirst for althings historic justice. Bravo my friend bravo
Cool composition :) Well done and very believable.
what an amazing render, so very well done!
Well put together... I think the plane should be slightly bigger .....I ONLY say that having returned from The USAF Museum at Dayton and have stood by and taken photos of one a few months ago.. Otherwise, damned good.. Thanks! And, thanks!...lol Rob
Outstanding as always. Only comment is that the wheel well is rather austere. Lacking an opening for the gear to retract into but I wont mention door structure. A footnote to history: the japs have renamed Iwo Jima to Iwo Ito which I take as an insult to the near 30 thousand americans that died there. Kinda like renaming a cemetary to obsure the history of bodies there. Also obscures the near 30 thousand military & civilian japs that died there. Today is 12/7. I hope that we dont have to see some jerk waiving the sunburst flag on the Arizona memorial as happened last year.
Fantastic scene, love the planes and characters, outstanding work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
superb composition and light !!!
