and play the fife lowly.....love it!
Captured 10/25/09 at the 8th Annual Wings Wheels Rotors & Expo, held at the beautiful Joint Forces Training Base (JFTB) in beautiful Los Alamitos, California.
Bill should like this.
Better viewed full size.
As I was on my way to the airfield gate, this Army band, identified only as the 40th ID, came parading by, all in military step, led by a tall female soldier, with the only bandsman playing an instrument being the chap in the back at the right, slowly drumming out cadence for his mates as they marched by, all decked out in their camouflage fatigues and silly berets.
From what I could surmise, except for the leader and a few female soldiers, the band was made up entirely of males. And, ironically, I don't believe there was a fife among the entire bunch.
Other than playing the National Anthem, their main purpose was to march around the base during the show, just as you see above, in step with one of the drummers beating cadence. Kind of reminds me of Revolutionary and Civil War stuff.
Note that the automobiles shown in pics 2 and 3 were also dressed in identical camouflage.
Ta-ta, and thankx for looking in.

I do like it Harry. I noticed the car too...not sure, maybe a small Toyota but these days they all look alike. Did you get its' tail lights? Good pix and collage. 40th Infantry Division has been the California National Guard's Infantry Division for at least the last 47 years. They've done their stints in Iraq with distinction (they don't go as a division they go as separate brigades).
Fascinating march and a matching camuflage colors of the uniform and a car is funny.
this is wonderful to see good people doing this stuff
This are really cool shots.
Great shots Harry! I would of missed the camo car if you did not point it out!
Oh to cool a capture Harry....would be cool to hear them also...I noticed the car also Bill and thought the same thing...lol Did Harry get the tail lights! LOL
bmac62 and rainastorm: I probably would have been arrested and beaten by the military police if I dared photograph the auto's taillights.
3 fine shots of a fine body of men, excellent photography Harry, hugs Jane xx
Cool. I love the camouflaged cars.
Very nice collage Harry!
Wow... lots of brass in this outfit. I do see a couple of Saxophones, one Clarinet and perhaps a Flute, based on the man's wrist music holder. I noticed the car before I read! Nice collage.
There's something in the back of my mind, an old saw: "If it moves, salute it; If it doesn't paint it!" Obviously the car wasn't fast enough. Good catch!
lol @ Osper... and interesting they didn't play a tune, just drums
Great picture! I love Military Bands... They have a sound to them don't they! Top work, Harry! Rob
