Description
Something brand new for me.
This photograph has been treated to the "Orton Effect". Shari (tizjezzme) spurred me on to give this a try.
Here is a very short explanation of "the what".
Orton Effect
This is about my third trial run. Object is to wind up with an ethereal, painterly appearance by combining two photos of high and low detail, fiddling with opacity, etc. Like other techniques...some photos work a lot better than others:)

So THAT'S what it is, thankyou for the link, Bill. I still prefer 'tight and sharp'...."I'm just an old fashioned girl.." (bursts into song)
nice capture
Nice shot!
Nice photo Bill, But where's the birds ;-) lol. Nothing like learning a new skill and art technique... Well Done!!
So that is what the technique is called! I have done it before on slide, a double exposure on a tripod, the second slightly out of focus. http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1215237 The movement cause by a breeze just adds to the effect. Well done, Clive
wonderful photo!!!
Excellent photo...
Way to go Bill !! woo hoo! Beautiful shot, and orton effect, for sure. lol I'd love to see you keep going ... :) :)
Great image!!
Hey its always fun to try something new, and I have no doubt you will be a master at it in no time Bill...just keep us updated on your progress, share what you've learned (if you want...lol) and stick a bird in there every so often....lol We love your birds! Great pic btw!
Nice starting to play good for you
That's cool Bill! I must give this a try.....
Great effect going on there Bill, the orton is great for water colour effects too with heavier blur.
Interesting work, Bill.
Looks good! I tried the Orton effect a while back ... it was fun to play with! (Glass globes, as I recall.) I like the sort of "architectural drawing" vibe you've gotten with this.
wonderful photo work!!!! Great!!!!
Great shot Bill
And to think I get to see all this soon--wow!! Love this effect, yet another toy I've not yet tried!!
Love the inquiring mind and resulting explorations.
enticing! i'll try it too! great shot!
my my we are getting so high tech.. lol Did you ever get to the gardens in Chicago when you were there? If not you need to go back, take me as your tour guide it you want. :)
Great pic Bill, but haven't a clue what you mean :o)
Very interesting, and I'm sure you expended a lot of time and work into this effort, but I echo Andrea's comments in this instance: tight and sharp, Bill, except that I'm just an old fashioned guy, and not a girl.
I'm going to have to try and learn some of these new effects
great skyline!!!
These look rather majestic against the sky.
I have done that before but until today I never heard it was Orton's idea whoever they maybe.interesting effects
You know me Bill! But then MOST of what i deal will, requires pin Sharpe if you can get it... But, always give things a go, thats what I say. And , good on you for trying it. It's NOT unpleasant! Lol. Rob.
Sure is Chicago! Great skyline and interesting effect!
I'm familiar with the Orton Effect; though not being a photographer, I've never applied it. But it creates this strange sense of softness, of inner shimmer; and you got that here. It's also vaguely reminiscent of those old 3D contraptions, when you look in the viewer. It's an intriguing shot in its own right, isolating a few of Chicago's well-seen towers against a bright blue sky. Always nice to see you try new things here, you always do them with real thought & care.
