Description
I had been chasing this butterfly around the garden for a few days as I was unsure of what type it was and excited by the possibility it may be the Black Veined White if so then very rare here in the UK. A heavy dew came to my rescue, as it took shelter early in the morning.
This large butterfly became extinct in the UK around 1925, its last remaining stronghold in the south-east of England. The cause of its demise is a mystery since its foodplants can be found in abundance in all of its former localities. This butterfly has one generation each year and, where it exists, forms distinct colonies.

Wonderful capture!!
Well if it is a black vein what a great find Danny, have you sent this to an entomology society?...Hope it is Dan, they may then name it O'Byrne's Black veined white...Super shot mate!
excellent find look after it and its young to come watch out for the ladybird or you wont have its offspring. and excellent crisp clear capture well done Dan.
Beautiful shot :)
Beautiful capture with the added colour of the flower Danny, Like the detail esp around the eyes and proboscis areas. Interesting to read how rare this is in the UK. We do sometimes hear that there are cases of certain species making a come back (Pity I don't take note of which ones eh! lol)
It certainly is a Black Veined White Dan :) As you mentioned, rare in UK and far North but mostly found in Europe.
A MASTERPIECE!!!
Fabulous image with beautiful light for an early morning shot! I've never been lucky enough to see a dew laden butterfly yet. Bravo, Danny, on both the image and finding this rare species!
A real beauty ;O)
Amazing macro, my friend!!! Wonderful colors, details and DOF!!!
Excellent close-up. I'm sure a couple of drops of dew equates to gallons weight-wise to us.
