Description
WW II British Spitfire flying through the upper reaches of the Transportation Gallery in the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry.
Lucky for me there was a balcony that allowed me to get close to this historic relic known for its' fine performance in the hands of the RAF while whipping Hermann Goering's Luftwaffe in 1940.
The main reason three of us Renderositians journeyed to Chicago was to see the German WW II U-boat, U-505. Will have something up from that amazing display soon.

Thanks for stopping by,
Bill:)
P.S. Forgive the gleaming reflections in the canopy...bright lights at the wrong places...didn't like the looks when eliminated.

Beautiful shot and interesting information :)
wow!!! great super shot!! museum lights are always in the bad place!!
Great image. Fantastic shot!!
This is my kind of shot!!! MORE MORE MORE MORE! The Messerschmidts must have had anxiety attacks when this fellow turned up.......wiping the makeup clad smirk right off Hermann Goering's fat face!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful photo.
Excellent Image!!! Have to love the spitfire... and Excellent shot, We have a science and industry museum here, its such an honor to be so close to this fine works!!!!
Nice shot, though nothing beats seeing this plane swooping low over an airfield. It's an absolute design classic.
A friend of my Dad's fought at the Battle of Britain...He was in the Royal Canadian Air Force...
Excellent image.
Good shooting, Ace. Like the angle of the shot.
Super cool shot Bill! Great work!
Nice close-in view, Bill. Rob must have been jumping up and down next to you.
Ahhhhhhh ... the first airplane photo from your trip. :D I am imagining you with your camera, happy as a clam, combining photography, aviation, and friendship all at one time. What could be better? My friend, I will have nothing intelligent to say about these images as you put them up, but I will look with great interest! What attracts me about this one is the way the surface of the metal undulates with color and light. Such a rich patina - it's beautiful! In other words ... whatever comments I make will be along the lines of ... "Oooooooo! Pretty!"
Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few!! Great shot bud!
Great shot and thanks for sharing.
This is a great shot! The reflection of the light on the body shows the dents and dings. I think if they wouldn't be visible it would take away from the photo.
wonderful shot, Bill!!museums are often terrible for reflections and lights.Your capture is fantastic!!!!!!!!!!
He Got 5 ;-) G o r g e o u s
Awesome ! And don't worry about canopy reflections. They add to the realism. They even make an entire chapter in aviation artists. P
Our little spitfire, great. :o)
More good stuff, Bill. Fine close-up and he looks so real!
Tallyho, am right on Jerry's tail... Stellar photo taken from inside an otherwise dimly lit museum, Bill. I know the feeling well. And, I don't recall the Spitfire having such a drab paint job. Actually, it was the Hawker Hurricane that inflicted more damage on the raiding Luftwaffe than the more highly publicized Supermarine Spitfire.
This is great....are those patches up front?
Neat shot! Nice close up of the cockpit area.
Great shot. I would guess that is a patch for a previous suspension point . . . I really dislike suspended aircraft . . . but not all museums have unlimited floor space . . .
Great closeup! Hope all three of you are having fun there.
if I had the smarts(do not) to be a fighter pilot,I could never handle the small space.excellent pov you chose
Wow, this is beautiful--the light is amazing!!
I love stuff like this. My uncle was a gunnery sergeant on a B26 during WWII. The history from this time just fascinates me. I am glad you enjoyed your trip.
wonderful!!!
