Description
More from my day out with Sig ...
We drove down out of the mountains to a town called Winthrop, which is a faked-up Western town. Wooden sidewalks, saloons, the whole bit. Since Washington State never had a Tombstone, Arizona sort of history, it all seems a bit over the top to me, but hey ... what do I know?
Just out of town a ways there was this park just FULL of tents and travel trailers. People were out camping for the three-day weekend, and it was a mob scene. The campground was a shallow hillside with very few trees, and there were kids everywhere. Not my thing, but they DID have public restrooms, which was why we went out there to begin with.
It's hot and dry on the east side of the Cascades, and it was about 80F at the campground. I was ready to go the second we got there!
We only stayed a few minutes, and then turned around and headed back up into the mountains for the return trip home.

I like the picture but I have to agree with you, the less people the better
Winthrop is a destination to me, a place I go to, then turn around and come back home... silly but true... It's a beautiful drive... It's all about the adventure... So I understand being ready to go the second you arrive...
Up here we have Barkerville lol. I have to agree, too many people spoils the scenery. Looks like it could be a nice spot though :-)
Ruth Lake east of here is the same kind of place; there's not "there" there!!
This looks like a fun place with a background view. Excellent. Aloha
But kids like other kids. Good for them:) Neat scenery for your turn-around.
AN awesome place so cosy.
wonderful scene and atmosphere with the people taking in the action of the watersport. Those mountains look great! In MHO (just to be awkward lol),If the people are there with no other option I think the composition would look just as good with more of the foreground and more people (esp to the left of pic) and less sky.
We have lots of places like this! I don't count the beach because it's a home from home for me, and our part of it is more OK than the very crowded bit!
Wonderful image!!
beau site
Great to see so many ppl having a good time and enjoy a wonderfu outing. Those mountains are so beautyful.
Over the top or not, you did a great job here sweetie, fantastic shot!
Excellent capture Tara, i'm with you though get back up into the mountains its a bit cooler up there. I like the quiter places myself. Love those Mountains. Bravo!!!!!
I often go places just to turn around and leave when I get there; I used to feel guilty about it, but no more! Yes, too many people for my taste too, but I'm not a kid. I would have felt totally different 40 years ago! What a lovely place...
I hope you didn't let the local natives know about your over the top views on their faked up western town or it would have been "ten paces apart at high noon" for you Tara! hehe.. very nice capture indeed.
Great landscape, looks good for families with kids but I'd rather be up in the background.
Any spot of water here in the Bay Area is like that...too many folks having a good time...or wanting to...
gorgeous landscape !
Canoes! Let's take one over to the other side, where the cars can't go.
Beautiful scenery. wonderful capture!!
makes me wish I was there wonderful work, Tara May have a great weekend warm hugs that smile Linda Kaye
Fantastic!!
Mind refreshing!
Splendid image! :)
OK, I giggled... several reasons... I always search for "facilities" when I'm out and only frequent the clean ones. And at 80 degrees, I would be happy as a clam because at so many of the mountain lakes here, it will stay between 90 and 100 during the summer! Best to lean toward the coastal areas and I mean ON the coast. At least then it will be in the 70s with a stiff breeze. As for crowds... I only mingle with them from afar. :-) This is a great summertime shot though. I love all the activity, especially since I wasn't there. LOL
Great pic!!!
Very nice , I love the mountains in the background, and it looks like all the people are thinking of jumping in. Maybe someone told them to jump in the lake....LOL. - Cheri
Beautiful day and place, I agree a little warm, excellent capture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice looking place to go visit...
