Description
Another incredible piece of Hawaiian history--the petroglyphs**. No one knows exactly what they mean, but just standing there looking at them, knowing they've been there for centuries---it makes me feel rather insignificant. This was the ancient way, I have no idea how far it went, we walked a couple of miles. Once again, I was moved by the same spirit I felt over and over.
I do wonder, though, about the kharma of those who built over so much of this land.
These are preserved between condos and golf courses; a very strange combination.
We also walked the Kialuea Caldera, and drove the Chain of Craters, where we saw more of these amazing sights.

Oooh, this is great. When I saw the thumbnail, I thought I was looking at fossils, but instead, you've treated us to another thing all together. I'm quite curious about these, and the link you provided is a goodie! I love the colors here, the rich earth tones, the perfect light. You do have an eye! Great stuff as always, and I have the travel bug again...Your Hawaii pictures have stimulated that. That's always a good thing!
Fascinating stuff, Marilyn. Isn't it weird when you stand on that spot a feel the spirituality of those places, and although I have never been there I have certainly experienced the same feelings in visiting other historical places. Excellent pictures and presentation!
My how things change I wonder what the ancients would think of us and what we have done with their land! very nice set of photographs of petroglyphs, I always feel humbled when I come across something very ancient.
An ancient's form of doodling at a meeting? No disrespect to the ancients intended...just have all of Andrea's doodles in mind:-)
I have never been to this area even tho I had spent a lot of time in the Puako Village area during my youth. A lot of things had changed since then including the the Hotels and Condo's. A wonderful capture of a story and history of old Hawaii. Aloha

Thanks for the link Marylin made for some interesting reading. I have to agree wholeheartedly with Alans comment and hope to be experiencing some of those feelings on Monday when we vist the City of Chester. Superb captures and fantastic information. Bravo!!!!!

I know what you mean, I felt it at Stonehenge (despite the orange plastic fencing and all the busloads of tourists!). What a cool find and really excellent shots!
Fabulous!Excellent photo.Thank you!
Neato keeno collage of the petroglyphs, Maz! I didn't know they had that kind of stuff in Hawaii. For better or for worse, you are now possessed by the spirits of the islands. Do not be surprised when you are contacted in your dreams. Aloha.
