Description
This is an old school class at St Fagans which dates back to Edwardian times with some implements of punishment such as the cane, and I assume to be a paddle and ? the finger clamps to prevent children from writing with the left hand!
Frowned on at those times as being the sign of evil or criminal tendancies!! From which we get such phrases as Cack Handed..
Thanks for taking time to view and for any comments etc you care to make

This is wonderful! What a mood you've captured!
Beautiful nostalgic image and lovely light and airy mood! I certainly remember the sisters walking around with rulers in their hand!
Very beautiful visit into the past, a wonderful mood.
Great pic Danny and if they tried to use most of those forms of punishment today they would lock the teachers up. Sad that now they are afraid to discipline the kids in any way.
I am not that old and i can remember the day I was in school and it looked like that, thanks for the nightmares lol cool and excellent capture.
Your style shines through in this. I saw the thumb and knew immediately it was your work. This is clean and composed with an artist's eye. Great light and the objects included are extremely interesting. I didn't know about the hand clamp at all! South-paws run in our family with 2 sons, one grandson and one grand daughter all leaning left. In spite of it being from a more historic time, I feel a bond with the shot - much like my old school room when I started first grade.
Wonderful Image!
Very cool pic...my dad used to tell us stories of teachers frowning on using the left hand and what not...wow. When I was in grade 4 we were being taught how to write in 'cursive'...my dad actually punished me for using a bad word (cursive)...he still was not impressed even after my teacher tried explaining it was what they called that type of handwriting. Times sure have changed. Awesome nostalgic post :-)
Wonderful shot Danny. Fills me with nostalgic thoughts about my first grade school building. I remember it as being intimadating to a first grader. Brand new building opened the next year...but these memories linger. Only completely new thing to me are the finger clamps. Hmmmm, I knew there was something funny about left handers. LOL
Really Cool. 5+.
Excellent image!!
Wonderful photo of this olden classroom. Yes, educational methods have certainly changed. But I imagine those kids learned some good lessons which they never forgot. I have serious doubts about the quality of education these days.
wonderfull capture..and pure nostalgic Daniel x
very interesting and wonderful image!!!!
I always enjoyed school, especially the early grades, and so glad there were no paddles and finger clamps. You captured quite a mood with this photo, and I'm imagining those desks filled with children. CC
Wonderful light and mood. Excellent and very interesting shot. I hope, they are not any more in use. :)
The woods look so rich with age and wear.. Fine work Danny!
Cool pic, it reminds me of my own youth and the school I have learned to write, read etc.. Lucky me they had no clamps there..
Very beautiful and awesome photoshot my friend, excellent capture.
Great shot. Implements of torture in the class room. And People wonder why we need to keep religion out of the schools...
Excellent capture! I had to go to school with nuns yep and had a few paddlings too lol.
...attended a private catholic school in the early '70,s...ahh....the memories...of course SOME of these implements just weren't....implemented,but not for lack of trying....but I learned my P's and Q's,as they say...nice shot!
The memories come flooding back to me of my first school!
beautiful slice of a time gone by.. probably just like the kind of classroom my dad used ;)
days gone by and this is a wonderful shot of this class
Excellent old school scape and mood, Danny!!!
Love the lighting here, adds a bit of joy to a gloomy place that was once filled with the dour faces of sad children tired of their punishments. Ah, the good ol' days. Great capture!
Beautifully done!
