Description
A remark by Marcopolinski (BTW, thank you!) about my avatar in my previous post made me think that it is only fair to show you where it comes from. It is another of the many pub signs in Leek, Staffordshire. I don't know whether there are more pubs with picturesque signs here than in the rest of Central England. The fact is that I love them, and I'll post more in the future.
This Quiet Woman sign means two things to me: first, my inordinate passion for folklore. Second, the fact that this woman, even if beheaded to keep her silent, stubbornly keeps showing her presence as a ghost. The lit candles in the chandelier she holds show that her quest for truth and reason has not been put out yet. Am I embroidering too much? (;D).
My mum usually told me: "You cannot always win, but if you feel wronged, don't bend forward at 90 degrees, and thank for the f. service. At least, protest!" Could I disobey my mum?

Unique.
I enjoy seeing them also and love that you take time to not just post your images but you share that folklore as you mentioned with us.

This is so fascinating. Such a new subject for thought. Needless to say I had no idea how much impotantance it has.

Wow! Wonderful shot, Sandra! I like the surrounding detail AND the enlarged view of the pub sign. Well done!
Really outstanding postwork on this well done photo. Great pov and composition.
Really Cool. 5+.
very nice colours
It's a wonderful avatar and great to see where it is coming from. I would add one thing that it would mean to me.... her not having a head makes me feel like she is her heart and not her mind/ego. She is a wise woman, that's how I see it :)
Well done!
How neat the photo and your words!!! Leek looks like a fascinating place. I hadn't really looked at your avatar in detail before but it has been very eye catching even without knowing the background. I've found antique cigar labels do the same thing for me...that's where my avatar comes from:) I'm really enjoying your gallery.
