Admittedly, I'm probably driving my betatesters crazy posting some of the images from my upcoming, Pelicans, (that they haven't got their hands on yet)... so I'm sorry... but it's hard not to post a couple images while I finished off the last few species in the package :) The Brown Pelican is native to the North American coasts. It is unique among the world's seven other species of pelicansas it is found only along the ocean shores and not on inland lakes. It is the only dark pelican, and also the only one that plunges from the air into the water to catch its food. The Brown Pelican spend 15 years on the endangered species while it's population recovered from the effects of DDT. The Brown Pelican has more than recovered; it's current population exceeds historic levels.
