Description
I had made the reservations for this trip to Oberammergau in September, including the car. I wanted a small car with manual transmission for good gas mileage. When I arrived at Munich airport they gave me a triple upgrade- a Mercedes. I don't care much for Mercedes, especially when on the road in Europe. It had high-speed tires, no snow tires. When I asked them how the roads were, the answer was 'All major highways are clear'.
True enough, but the moment I pulled into Oberammergau I got stuck. So on the 28th December we took the Mercedes to Munich and exchanged it for an Opel, front-wheel drive with snow tires. That afternoon I talked my cousin into going to Neuschwanstein with me and this picture was taken between Oberammergau and Neuschwanstein. But when we got there it snowed and the castle was barely visible, not enough to take a picture, but the trip gave me a chance to re-familiarize myself with driving in these conditions.
This picture was taken on 28 December 2005.

A beautiful wintery scene!!!!!!! good thing you traded cars!!
Awesome Scene!!
Beautiful winter scene!!
Your shot makes a beautiful winter scene although I can sympathize with you for tough driving conditions!
Nice scene Sig. Looks familiar to me and I've done a fair share on driving in snow there too. Prior to retiring for about the third time two years ago, we'd go into Munich about once a year, rent cars and drive north 1 1/2 hours to Grafenwohr for exercises at the 7th Army Training Center there. Familiar with that area? Bill
BEAUTIFUL CAPTURE :)

Wonderful landscape!!!

Un joli paysage, une très belle photo!
Splendid composition and colors my friend
I am in a far different place today. Looking here I take stock of my last days driving a car in snow in 1986. It's all part of a decision. Welcome to making a decision.

beautiful shot!
What a lovely view! Beautiful in the snow, especially since I'm not there driving in it. :)
mit Schnee wird da nicht gespart!!!! Wir haben nur einen Hauch davon! Aber 2005 hat es bei uns ähnlich ausgesehen. Schönes Foto!
Gorgeous scene, it's not so hard to drive on if you pay attention to your car and the road, but you can't treat it like a "regular" drive!
I love snow scenes - this is lovely Sig! LOL @ the Mercedes / Opel swop! :)
I know this road ! You were courageous to go there with all that snow... Love your capture !
Beautiful winter scene. Snow can look so beautiful. But, dangerous at the same time. Hope you had lots of fun. Aloha

Snow on a flat surface is tolerable but snow on a down grade is another thing...even one this slight! Great shot though and a fabulous story.
