Description
This Soviet Memorial was erected in 1945 in honor of the Soviet Soldiers that gave their lives in World War II. It is located about 400m west of the Brandenburger Tor on the Strasse des 17. Juni in Tiergarten, Berlin. Before the Wall came down this was West Berlin. At right is a T-34 Soviet tank and in front of the Memorial, facing the camera, is my cousin Gundi freezing. We had come to Berlin to meet my brother to see my mother who turned 91.
This picture was taken on 4 January 2006.

da bin ich 1972 auch vorbeigegagen - nah durfte man da nicht ran. Schönes Foto!
Excellent snowy capture at the memorial!
Excellent work Sig, my daughter took a shot of this a few years ago, she was visiting Berlin as part of her A level course in modern history. She didn't quite manage an A but got a very respectable B, which is still a pass. Nice to see it neat and tidy, even the tank and gun kept in good condition, with no rust showing. I feel shame when I see some of our memorials here in the UK, some only get looked at once a year if that. Nice to see your cousin Gundi, her expression says 'hurry up Sig, it's cold standing here!'. Superb capture, thanks for sharing. Bravo!!!!!
Gosh! Yesterday the Phillipines, today Berlin! who knows where tomorrow! I love it!
Wonderful capture! :)
You are certainly a well travelled man Sig!!! Fantastic memorial and shot! :)
The head of the Russian Orthodox church, Alexei II, has just died. He began ministering to concentration camps with his father.
marvelous document!
Superb capture and Gundi and the others really give a good sense of scale.
Interesting shot with fantastic details.
@JeffG7BRJ. You are absolutely right Jeff, should couldn't wait for me to finish. It wasn't that cold, but the damp made it feel miserable. Something I am sure you know, living in the UK.
@durleybeachbum. It is easy to do Andrea, sitting in front of the computer. I decided to upload at random for a while.
Magnific capture Sig..interesting! :)

A very well built tribute and one that makes me think back to the stories told over the years about the Russians participation in the war. Great shot.
