Description
Nikon 7900 pocket camera - hand-held image.
This is a Bullfrog (Rana catesbeiana). It is the largest Frog in North America and can be found along the entire West coast and all of the Eastern half of America. The body can be up to 8" (20.3cm) long and with the legs extended, a full grown one can be way over 1' (39cm)in length. It is usually found on the bank at the water's edge and if frightened, it will as soon flee into nearby vegetation as take to the water.
Many years ago, it was great fun to go 'Frog Gigging'. That is a method of hunting them. you either paddled around in a boat at night with a flashlight and a long 3 pointed spear or sometimes you just waded along the bank. We were young and didn't consider problems with snakes and gators, lol. On a good night, a couple of guys could get more than a dozen each. The legs and main carcass are deep fried and are very tasty, lol.

I guess I enjoyed this photo much better before I read that you ate them?? It is a cool photo though!!!
I am astounded at how humongerous they can be! And at that size could be mistaken for a plucked chicken! Dead for sometime I might add ... looking at the colour:0) And a stunning shot!
I don“t want to be a fly if you have such monsterfrogs. Great capture and interesting informations. Well done, Lee.
I thought I recognized that smug frog face, we have tons of them up here in New Hampshire. They're wonderful and sometimes very tame, and you can hear their deep voices echoing through the pond in the evening -- it almost sounds like they're laughing. This is a good shot, but I'll bet you could get even closer if you were careful. A close-up of a bullfrog's eye is beyond price and I know you've got the talent and skills to make the most of it.
Super shot of this froggy :)
super portrait! I glad you killed them before you cut them up, unlike the ones which the French eat the legs from. WWF published film of workers cutting the legs off live frogs and discarding the bodies which can take many minutes to die.
Nice capture Lee! The frogs I see most here are a bit different. I'll send you a photo.
Great!
Great shot!
