Description
Nikon 7900 pocket camera, hand-held image.
I spent a lot of time trying to ID this caterpillar without success and finally posted it at BugGuide.com.
It did not take long before someone explained why I could not find it in my 'Caterpillars of Eastern North America' reference book. Turns out, it isn't a caterpillar at all. It is the larva of a Beetle, lol.
I will show the Beetle it turns into tomorrow.
Thanks to those who take the time to comment.

I'm glad you are steady as they go on these. Splendid capture. Bunny
It is a rather attractive creature for a beetle larva! I look forward to seeing the adult.
great macro...
The flow of this image is excellent, especially with the buds in varying states of focus. A lovely little critter who seems to be having fun climbing around on the flower; I look forward to seeing the beetle it becomes.
Wonderful capture, Excellent well done..
Perfect focus Lee, glad the folks at bugguide were able to help.
I would also have been stumped for ID Lee, I associate caterpillars with butterflies and moths not with beetles. Excellent macro, I also look forward to tomorrows upload. Bravo!!!!!
Great macro
Perfect.
Great macro. I expect the adult one. Greetings, Markus.
great macro...smile...although I admit I wouldn't welcome it to much in my plants...lol
wonderful work...
