Description
I learned something new today! This shelter at the Japanese Garden at the Washington Park Arboretum is called an azumaya.
All I knew when I first saw it was that it created a bit of shade on a very hot day, and the underside of the roof was the perfect place to look at the harsh, mid-day light. All those angles and corners reflected the light beautifully, and I was entranced!
Thank heavens for Photoshop ... I was able to clean the cobwebs out of the corners without ever actually touching them. :)
This is my favorite shot from that day. What a surprise, huh? (... she said, laughing up her sleeve at herself ...) I admit it - I'm a sucker for interesting light, interior scenes, and partial views!

This is fascinating! I love that you removed cobwebs as you did! Care to try at my place? (ladders are coming out tomorrow!)
Excelent pov Tara. First an empty chocko box up side down came into my mind. See what an abstract does to ppl...lol. But seriously, this is a cool shot and a warm texture of the wood shows so well and a light give an extra fascination to this picture.
Now, if only we could remove the cobwebs in real life as easily... lol. Wonderful shot :)
You have a great artistic eye Tara! Great light, pattern and textures, and I would have never have guessed there were any cobwebs lol
Great shot. Like it a lot.
...diese sehr interessante Holzdecke hast Du hervorragend in Szene gesetzt!!!!
Very well done. The shadows intensify the lighter areas very well.
Interesting shot!!! :)
This is so warm, so beautiful and of course, your light is wonderful!!!
very fine image with great light emphasizing the pattern.
Beautifully cleaned without soap and rubber gloves :))) Excellent capture :)))
A beautiful image, (what a shame about the cobwebs!!!!)
The the shades and shapes /pattern here. Makes for an excellent image!
It is amazing the work that went into making this replica azumaya, it must be a very strong structure, and much more than a shelter from the sun or rain. I hope you got a shot of the exterior Tara, you have whetted my appetite now. I don't know what wood was used to build it but it looks very warming. Excellent capture, a very rich image, love everything about it. Bravo!!!!!
Excellent capture Tara, I would imagine it was a blessed shelter from the scorching sun, something we have had little of lately :(..Nice one my dear!
Yes, this is a wonderful shot! The light is marvelous. When I was there it was full of a group of students, so I never got up close to see this, but it wouldn't have looked the same anyway with all the rain. Great work!
and great lines and angles
Oh Tara, wonderfull! A very graphic capture!
for all its simplicity it is so complex .i love this tara :o) mick
It really is beautiful wood, makes for wonderful lighting and shadows.
Great shot!
the criss-cross and diagonals, the golden color of the wood, and the play of shadow and light -- a gorgeous shot!
A stellar POV in this marvelous grid-like array of squares, beams, corners, angles, light, shadow, amber texture, looking all spic and span after you meticulously eliminated the cobwebs, Tara.
LOL love your cobweb cleaning. Great POV
Great POV...such a warm feeling
nice shot...
Excellent POV and idea !
Too bad we can't use Photoshop IRL to spiff up the ol' casa :o) ....good one Tara ~
I never thought to take a picture of this ceiling! Great capture!
