This posting should be the first big clue as to what my mystery theme of the week is, lol. Good luck.
This critter is an Owlfly. It is related to the Antlions. I have seen one of these on three occasions over the last few years and I managed to get usable pics on two of those times. It is a very neat critter.

Continuing with flies... but it's not the theme ! :-( ? This one is really incredible, looking more like a dragonfly... Thanks for this extra-ordinary collection of beautiful images, Lee !
The owlfly looks like the drama queen of dragonflies! Beautiful!
...... Your insect admissions are all one single show! I am over and over again on `see new enthusiastically from your photos! Here this is a proof again!
I'm totally lost for guessing a theme, I suppose it will be a specific behavioural thing. another amazing flying insect Lee and I can't get over the length of this ones antennae !
Well its not what I thought yesterday! The antennae look as if they could be an encumbrance!
Way cool
Now there is a new one to me, Excellent!
Well I'll be, we have something just like that in Oz. Nailed one in a bugzapper one night in the bush. It was the size and shape of a large dragonfly, obviously nocturnal and not quite as strongly built. Now I can give it a name
Is it that they are all mimics? This is another new one for me Lee, an excellent capture, especially as its supposed to be nocturnal. That 25 acres of yours is a pleasure ground for all the little critters, do you think they are telling all the other insects what a great place it is. Lol. Superb work as always. Bravo!!!!!
What an excellent little critter...
superb!
I'm frustrated now... how 'bout flies that aren't really flies? Or bugs that look good wearing green? Or things that go buzz in the night? I can't imagine what theme you have in mind... I know I have lost mine trying to come up with something...LOL Another stellar shot and, perhaps, the first time I've seen or noticed seeing this bug-eyed creature.
Amazing shot! I've never seen any like this before. Bunny
Mystical creature. Great shot.
Great macro! I also appreciate the classification.
