Description
Lava flow from Stromboli (924m - 3031-ft) is confined to the Sciara del Fuoco (Trail of Fire) on the northwest side of this very active volcano. Because of this it is possible for the three fishing villages to exist on the east side of the island.
This picture was taken on 7 July 2007.

Powerful shot!
very impressive shot sig .excellent my friend mick
excellent
Beautiful photo.
Once again Sig - I'll steer clear of this baby!!! Great shot. :)
Wow, that's impressive! and big! ;)
Fantastic colors and light. Superb shot
Another real impressive image. Outstanding light!
I don't understand why anybody would want to live on this bleak barren lump of rock in the middle of the sea. I can imagine that things would be expensive to buy, maybe the fish is cheap but everything else must have to be shipped in. I can't see it being that much of a tourist atraction even for a live volcano, not when you have to climb a mountain to see it. I don't know Sig maybe I'm missing something. Excellent capture, and I do find it interesting, just can't fathom the locals. Bravo!!!!!
Super shot! I agree with Jeff!
superb image!
Most excellent shot ! Great serie on this volcano !
Afriad I also agree with Jeff.. But then People live in some of the most inhospitable places..... Beautiful shot!!!
Beautiful capture and fantastic lighting on this. I agree with those above and can't imagine living there. Looks like a very lonely place. Excellent shot, Sig.
Excellent and very impressive shot. Looks gigantic!
I agree with everyone that wouldn't want to live on this island. These images were taken from the deck of a cruise ship and that was close enough for me. But apparently there are people that are interested in climbing up there and get a closer look of the volcanic activities of this very active cone. Tourism to the island is a major source of income.
an excellent capture and the small boat gives credence to the enormity of the island volcano. the closest I have been to an active volcano is Mount Pinatubo on Taal lake at San Nicolas, Philippines.I could see smoke but nothing more. I wanted to take a small boat there, but hte person I was with was afraid of boats.and theyonly had a very small engine.if there was an eruption, it would be adious
Not much in the way of greenery....
superb !!!!!
lol that little boat there. lol it big and i would not go up there to the top.
Yes, you mentioned this but I am very skeptical...I don't put all my faith in "its been that way as long as I can remember" since nothing ever stays the same. Everything changes. This is a fabulous view of the active side. Really an adventure shot as I see it.
Excellent capture and superb view, Sig!

Wow, you DO get around! Stunning capture!
Impressive ! it must be a very interesting place to visit, nice capture, excelent light, wonderful work !
At the moment the flow is contained, but I live too close to Mt St Helens to think that any volcano can be controlled. But maybe they know the risk and have a plan... The photo itself is excellent; such a great view of this massive volcano.
Awesome shot! Would love to see an active volcano!
