Description
The Cozumel Thrasher is found (as expected) on the Island of Cozumel, off the coast of Mexico. It is considered the most endangered bird in Central America. The last confirmed sighting was in 2004, with several possible sightings in 2006. The problem facing this bird is two-fold. Thrashers are exceptionally sensitive to human activities and require “quality” habitat (untouched by man). With the expansion of the resort areas and increasing population of Cozumel this species’ numbers have plummeted. The shrinking populations have been additionally battered by the increasing number and strength of hurricanes in the last decade which many scientists attribute to global warming.
The Cozumel Thrasher is another bird to be featured in my next Songbird ReMix Pack featuring birds of the Yucatan. Plant models by J.Ward/RDNA and LB Botanicals/DAZ
