Description
While I was waiting for the early morning birds to come close enough, I sat crouched behind some bushes facing a group of trees that I knew was a favorite perch for the one bird I was waiting for. I happened to look behind me across the marsh and was very surprised to see several deer wading in the shallow water to forage on the tender and succulent water plants.
This little doe is eating a plant called 'parrot's feather', which is a common plant sold for use in koi ponds. The white tailed deer are small and dainty compared to the large mule deer of my native Colorado. With hunting season on, I was glad to see this sweet little doe safely grazing in this semi-protected environment and proud and that I was shooting with only my camera.
Thanks very much for your generous views and comments. I appreciate it.

This is a rare shot! Like how you did the softness of the bushes and keeping the eyes in sharp focus... Fantastic job !!!
Gorgeous! ------------------------------------♥;o)
Marvellous capture and thanks for your story :-) This animal is very cute !
A most tender capture Maria! Bravo!
Nature photography is always such pure joy to be able to witness such a sight, to have captured it so wonderfully is a credit to your determination!
Omgosh, you are an inspiration!!!! Waiting for a bird, and then this comes along. Jeez, what a deal!!! Did your bird ever show up?? LOL This is awesome! I would have been so excited, I would have probably dropped my camera or MYSELF in the water!
Oh my, who needs to watch a Snow White movie for a doe when we have this? Terrific POV, clarity, colors and lighting effects in this photo of one of the most innocent creatures in the world. Super well done!!!
Such a beautiful and tranquil scene!
A wonderful surprise capture. :-)
What a splendid capture and POV........ Lovely.... Karen :)
Fantastic Photo!
White tail are delicate for sure. I had black tail on my property and that is much like a cross between the mule deer and the white tail. This is a fabulous shot. You are so lucky to be in the right place at the right time!
The great ones are sometimes unexpected..this is really a nice image to look at..
You don't get many chances at a shot like this, its lovely to see her there but one sharp movement from you and away she goes, with nothing to view except her tail. Excellent shot, you are one lucky lady. Bravo!!!!!
And lovely light, too. Wonderful photo.
Wow!!! How lucky are you!!! Fantastic shot!!
Bambi! ;) It's been a while since I've been to your gallery, Maria. Glad I stopped by. :) Beautiful shot.
Fantastic.... she is so beautiful.. excellent capture...
Stunning photo, with true feel-good factor. Adorable creature. Maybe a bit central, but I think I'd have been too excited to think about my composition at this point, so I can't really fault you!

what a beautiful capture my friend.
The animals seen free in the wild are so much more beautiful than the best captures in the zoos... Excellent photo, Maria !
(In fact, I'm jealous... I would love to take such a picture...) Congratulations for your selection in LWitG (Last Week in the Gallery – week 45-2007 ) !
