Description

Nikon 7900 image. It dawned on me today that the summer is almost over. There was no action around the tattered remains of the Passion Flower vines and everything seems to be worn out after a long year. I am sure there will still be many little critters left to find and capture before the cold sends then all into hiding where they will wait out the winter but time is definitely running out for this season. Although there are still lots of Blue Dashers left around the pond, many species I saw regularly just a few weeks ago, are now scarce. With that in mind, I hope another photo of a Dragonfly will not be boring after so many I have posted this year. This is a mature male Eastern Pondhawk. Despite my recent comment about the scarcity of Dragonflies now, there does seem to be an abundance of these late season males whereas earlier in the year they were not so common. Apparently they are getting ready to insure a new population of nymphs gets established before they run out of time. Thanks to those who take the time to comment. Lee

Nice and crisp with excellent detail of the flying "machinery". The dragons and damsels are pretty well gone here...in fact, not much left for bugs at all...almost time to put on the landscape lens...LOL!

Absolutely stunning, full size on a 19" monitor, the beautiful detail on the gossamer wings. I always think about mechanical engineering whenever I see the wing structure in a close up like this. Another excellent image Lee and I for one could never get tired of your posts no matter how many Dragonflies you posted. Macro photography at its best.!!!!!

I could never get tired of your stellar dragonfly shots. this one is also stellar. I love the clarity and pov that allows for so much detail to be seen. The dragonflies flying over my yard lately still aren't landing anywhere. I image they will continue to circle overhead until they run out of life and crash. I have visions of walking out to my car one morning and finding the walkway littered with dragonfly bodies! LOL

Yes, summer's almost over, the trees are already getting brown here... And I regret it too seeing less dragonflies... Have to find another subject now :) Beautiful capture of this one!
