Description
For those who remember Shortribs amazing shot of the swirling waters with a couple of overlooking beachfront apartments the other day, here is a rear view of the place which couldn't be less glamourous.
The apartments are at the the base of Manganui - which translates from Maori as "Mountain Big". Curiously it is known to Pakeha (White fellers) as Mount Maunganui or Mount "Mountain Big". It is a dormant volcanic cone which is nice to walk around or up and down.
This view was taken in the middle of winter on a very windy day. Main interest for me is the repeated shapes of the hill, the apartments and the stranded tyre.
The Romans who were the first to build multi-storey buildings called them "Insulae" or islands.

Pretty cool shot and if not for the tire in the sand it would be quite a beautiful one. The patterns in the wet sand created by the water and the hard change in color of the water close to the mountain are great!
I dunno, I kinda like the old tire ... give it that "je ne sais quoi." ;o) Would be interesting to scale that volcano cone. Interesting pic.

Never been to where you took this photo, but really love the pov in this and a nice job with the repetitions as you mentioned. Never realized just what it meant too... Thanks for this one buddy!

I was in two minds about posting this because it doesn't have the immediate appeal that we all like, but your kind and thoughtful comments make me think otherwise. Having thought about the tyre and the rope trailing along, it looks like it could be a mooring point for a boat, so it may be an artifact of marine infra-structure rather than the cast off rubbish I initially thought. Not really a fitting tribute to Artist of the Month but it does show the context of Short_ribs clamberings in the wind and over rocks. Kai - Whatever you do, don't drop the camera into the sea!!!
