Description
Nikon 7900 image.
This is not the image I intended to post tonight but I came across a very small cricket (1/4 inch in body length) this morning that I just had to share. So out with the old and in with the new.
I have never seen one of these anywhere before this morning nor even heard of them in fact. Although according to the info I managed to find, this species is the predominant chirping one hears in late summer and early fall so I guess I have at least heard them before even if I have not heard 'OF' them, lol. Before the day was over, I had found 4 of them in various locations. Had odd that seems. Just one of life's little mysteries I guess.
So here she is and now I plan on posting a series of different misc. little critters and give the Dragonfly postings a short break for the next week or so. Just trying to keep up interest among viewers.
Thanks to those who take the time to comment.
Lee
BTW - This is a female Red-headed Bush Cricket. The white patch on the bottom of the throat is not a photographic glitch, there is actually such a marking on both sides. The male is much less colorful..

Excellent macro buddy! Superb details and amazing colors in this. Isn't it strange how once you find one you see so many? Thanks for sharing this lill beauty with us ^_^
Super macro :And Very stunning colors! Never seen before.
Great details and clarity. Interesting critter. Is this still in Texas?
brilliant image, nice colours & composition. but i fill that ur framing is distracting attention away from the main subject
Wow, I've never seen something like this before, great shot!
Bravo Lee a great image love the postwork!
It is always a pleasure when I get an email saying you have posted, your macro's are absolutley astounding. This is awesome, only a quater of an inch, it is nearly five inches on my monitor and the detail is fantastic. What a strange tail it seems to have the thin one with tiny little hairs sticking out. Thanks for sharing this little creature with us, another beauty.
Fantastic Lee :))) Wow, its perfect! The colors, clarity; just everything. Beautiful macro photography. Have a super day and great weekend :)
Great compo¡¡
Excellent find! I don't think I've ever seen them before either but I know I hear them. Your great pov and lighting really show off the interesing features of the creature. Wow!
Oh my, I have NEVER seen a cricket like this before. Excellent image and what great colors with her posing on the green. Amazing photo. You know, it's bad luck to kill a cricket. I always catch them in the house and put them outside. I don't kill them and I certainly have been blessed..lol Great work Lee (and very interesting).
Unreal bug. Look impresive colours. GREAT
I'm not a big bug fan. But this is a superb macro. The colors of this cricket are amazing and the green bud makes for a great contrast. 1st class work, Lee.
Beauriful clear and detailed macro!
Absolutely amazing! This is a superb macro with marvelous colors. Excellent capture. Bunny
Awesome capture!!
awesome work my friend! You are getting me hooked on looking at macro stuff now ;-)
One of the sounds that make the post sundown concerts so enjoyable! How odd that she is the more colourful than the male, in most species it is the oposite. BJ
Nice capture...
This cricket looks like a bug someone made in a "MadLab."
