Description

The Bald Eagle is found in North America from central Alaska and Canada south to Baja and northern Mexico. This is the national bird of the USA, a symbol connected with patriotism, etc. The bird is not bald but the white head feathers give that appearance from a distance in the wild. Founding father of America Benjamin Franklin once suggested the wild turkey as the national bird. In the USA, a holiday called Memorial Day is celebrated the last Monday in May, a remembrance of soldiers and a time to decorate burial sites. The original traditional day is today, May 30th. Having taken this image a few days ago at the Cleveland(Ohio) zoo, today is a good time to post the photo. This photo was taken either through glass or a spot in fencing, I am not certain which. I waited and waited for the bird to turn and show its head profile while little kids ran around and would sometimes step on my feet..ok for them, they may not yet have seen a bald eagle.
