Description
Folks sometimes get these birds confused..I guess it is the coloration. Up close and habits show very, very different birds. This is a Nuthatch, fussy sounding acrobats who hold little fear of a camera.
The shot is with all the available light there was and was at 400ISO just to get enough speed to keep the blur down when the bird moved. Still, this is a Nuthatch.
I will try to get a nice Chickadee pic, with a different lens, better reach and more light. Ahh..now those jump at the sound of the shutter.

Very fine detailed capture and I would not have spotted the difference!
Very nice work. I guess we all learned something today. Aloha
He is a beautiful little fellow, Tom!! Glorious capture. Thank you so much for his ID!!! God Bless and Hugs. Diane.
They look similar, and that black cap don't help none. Cool shot, I like it. Thanks for the info!!
Fantastic photo!!! the chickadee is more round but yes they do look similar. Love to watch both of the birds thou.
darling little nuthutch (impressive that you knew what it was !! ) beautifully captured!!!
What a lovely capture of this Nuthatch quite different from our European species, they do have an unusual behaviour I saw which is bill sweeping in which it picks up a piece of fur, plant or insect with its bill and uses this to sweep around its nests cavity..
Tom, this is a very charming shot! Well done!
What a little cutie and superbly captured!
Wonderful pic and Great colours and DOF
A lovely bird ... I don't think I've seen one of these before... thank you for sharing!
Great Capture Tom. DOF really makes it stand out too. Nice work!
Wonderful shot of a fine specimen!
What a cutie, bravo!
Hah - Gotcha - you left the bribe on the table!!!! Nice capture - and yeah - the smaller the birds get, the harder it's to identify 'em! I shot a juvenile cardinal yesterday (never seen one before) and was dumbfounded - for it had both male and female traits...
very good shot of this bird
Beautiful a foto really adorable, ah these small sparrows... when I see your misadventure (cat) which looks at it, I am afraid!;-)))
I love the blues in his plumage.
My favourite bird (think there's one in my gallery somewhere!). Great catch!
