Description

A dear and loved friend and his wife reenact early settlers from the early 1700's, USA. At the time, this rebuilt fort played a part. Located in the state of Virginia just a bit north of Tennessee, Martins Station was a stopping and resupply post. The Brits were not happy with what was happenening in the "colonies" at that time preceeding the war that eventually made America free of a king and external rule and taxation. The fort protected those in who ventured to open the land. Native Indians were a threat, being pushed as their land was slowly being invaded and "civilized". Part of the fighting here was with local tribesmen and the Brits joined to rid the area of rebellious colonists. The spectacular Cumberland Mountains are the location. Not large mountains, these green hills offer abundant wildlife and peace for those bent on hiking up and within the mountain peace. This shot was taken last year, mid 2006. I deliberately did not use selections, masks or other means to bring more brightness to the shadows, as in the front of the main building. This is slightly adjusted in RawShooter global for exposure but is very close to "as taken" exposure and white balance, top to bottom.
